Legality of home games in your country (1 Viewer)

evil people are everywhere, so are ignorant people. What I mean is that yes, some cops will be bad. But I appreciate cops because I obey the law and I know the statistics

In my country poker is completely illegal if you play it with real money. You can play it legally with money only in a small list of licenced casinos like one in Sochi. Sometimes there are news appear about police that shut downs underground poker clubs or even private games from time to time

Fully illegal. There are some clubs, where you can play "sports poker" - tournament with entry fee, but the prizes are coupons for popular online shops. There are no cases that i know of, but as i understand (i am lawyer practicing in criminal cases), playing in a home game would be qualified as very minor offence with fine like 20eur. Not sure if police would take the chips. That would be way more painfull :) In the law, the game to count as a gambling, the result must be purely luck. I will argue, that poker does not qualify as a gambling, if i ever get caught :) there was a project of a new law for gambling, way more clearer, i guess tony g was pushing it, but it did not pass the parlament. Im happy that nobody is breaking the doors for 50 eur buyin cash games :)

Born in California, US, nothing much to say. Except someone here in Pomona got raided by cops, which was in other thread here a year ago. Don’t remember name.

Where my family is from in the far east, absolutely NO NO NO. Even millionaire celebrities and politicians can get arrested. Let’s say betting $5 on baseball game or cards (like poker) with your friends (not even hosting) will get in huge trouble if someone snitches. However, gambling must be only done with non-currency (including gold bars) is ok which is weird.

In Canada, it is completely legal to have home games played for money as long as there is no rake being taken.
I have a retired judge that plays at my game occasionally. My son's friend, who is a police officer plays at my home when the youngsters have a game on my table from time to time. I even get invited to play with them if they need someone to fill a chair.
Those younger guys play way more aggressively than my regular gang.

Great Britain (not including Northern Ireland) is pretty relaxed compared to many countries. Home games are permitted at any stake on the basis they are non-commercial and no rake / fee is taken from players. Unequal chance (Cash games) and Equal chance (tournament) are both allowed. Pub games are limited in stakes and prizepool but enforcement is rare.
