Auntie was pulling my leg. "A couple of decks of cards over there" she said as she pointed to the boxWow, this is nuts! No idea who is buying cards at this price!?!
Interesting timing - I just had a call from my aunt about my recently deceased uncle's estate and some "poker stuff" she was hoping to move on. She mentioned there were lots of playing cards with the letters "K - E - M" on them. Uncle might have left her a goldmine. I wonder what else is in there!?!?
I'm visiting her tomorrow to see what this is all about.
You may want to put these on the market now rather than hodling. Something tells me Kems aren't going to go the way of Bitcoin.Auntie was pulling my leg. "A couple of decks of cards over there" she said as she pointed to the box![]()
This is what was inside. All still in the original packaging/sealed but the carboard outers are showing some signs of wear and tear. There's a mix of wide (poker)/narrow (bridge) with some Jumbo index on the wide ones.
No idea how old they are. The wide jumbo index and narrow red/blue setups seem to have a taller plastic box with a deep concave lid and large USPCC logo, while the wide standard index and narrow black/gold have flatter box with a small centred KEM logo on the lid. Would appreciate any insights about if this means anything.
I'll be visiting again on the weekend to help sort through stuff and will post any interesting new poker-related finds here. Hopefully he has some nice chips stashed away somewhere.

EDIT: Just realised at those $CAD prices, there's well of CAD$3k "worth" of cards at today's prices (very debatable if they are actually "worth" that much though!)
Even for a KEM hater that's an awesome haul! Personally I wouldn't plan on getting $50 per setup, but a big box of sealed KEMs will be sexy to lots of the hosts on here.Auntie was pulling my leg. "A couple of decks of cards over there" she said as she pointed to the box![]()

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/kems-for-17-95.137569/I don’t think I’m sharing any big secret but I was at @Spinettis Gaming on Monday during a Vegas trip and they had like-new Kem setups for $17.95/setup. They said someone bought them, used them once and sold them back to the store. I bought a couple and took them home with me in my suitcase. It looked like the had about two dozen left when I was there.
The employee who checked me out said they didn’t list them on their website but if you call in you can order them over the phone and they’ll ship them to you.
Is her name Molly by chance?Auntie was pulling my leg. "A couple of decks of cards over there" she said as she pointed to the box![]()

Oh I totally missed that thread.
Thanks for the advice. I'll try to work out how to list them in the next day or so. I haven't sold anything on here before and don't want to be breaking any rules - again! You may want to put these on the market now rather than hodling. Something tells me Kems aren't going to go the way of Bitcoin.
No - lol. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but it went way over this uncultured Aussie's headIs her name Molly by chance?
Thanks for the guidance. I didn't overhype it since I have no idea what the demand is like, but I did assure my aunt that I could get her a few dollars for them. I'm in Australia so that will probably limit my market somewhat. Shipping to anywhere here (even locally) is crazy.Even for a KEM hater that's an awesome haul! Personally I wouldn't plan on getting $50 per setup, but a big box of sealed KEMs will be sexy to lots of the hosts on here.
You are going to make a good amount for her, promise. Best bet would probably be a US reshipper, biting the bullet once and getting them across the world together then separating. Good on you, enjoy them. There's some strategies on here to keep them flat so they don't bow, they're temperamental. Thanks for the advice. I'll try to work out how to list them in the next day or so. I've only played with KEMs a handful of times before, a looong time back. They do feel really different to the cards I normally use (usually Bee and Copag). One of my uncles would always blame them for his terrible dealing (rotating dealer) so they got banned from our family games
I'm not sure if I'm a big fan yet but they certainly are interesting cards.
There were two unsealed setups that I'm planning to keep since I've never owned any KEMs before. I was going to throw in $40 each for them (AUD, so like $10 US - jokes). It would be awesome if I could sell the rest for her.
But as you point out, you're a kem hater, so you might be underestimating. I' think he could get at least $40 usd per setup, and maybe a bunch more if any of those are pre-UPCCEven for a KEM hater that's an awesome haul! Personally I wouldn't plan on getting $50 per setup, but a big box of sealed KEMs will be sexy to lots of the hosts on here.

I'd just hate to see him short himself by offering them at $20 apiece."I don't think you'll get $50."
"You might be underestimating, he could get at least $40!"
To each their own, this thread is all about how wildly KEMs are priced. I think you're crazy if you're gonna pay $40 especially in bulk across an ocean but I hope he gets the money. I'm paying $20 for the best Fourniers on the market, to pay double that for these grenades is BANANAS.
Yeah, this isn't the fucking 80's. There are sooooo many great affordable options for vastly better cards out there now. I don't even understand how KEM are considered any kind of standard anymore, even for casinos who can more than afford to just throw them away."I don't think you'll get $50."
