Hi guys, I am a professional poker player from the East Coast, I have a set of the clay Rounders chips, and I have been collecting single poker chips from every poker room I have ever played in, both private games (mostly in nyc) as well as legal casinos. I actually never knew this forum existed until today, I stumbled upon it because I was looking for the WSOP playing cards from 2015. But now that I found this forum, it looks very interesting to me. By the way, I also have a collection of 700 poker books going back to the 1840's when poker was first mentioned in print. so aside from being a professional, I would say I'm also a poker historian of sorts.

Anyway, just saying hi.

Hello and welcome to PCF! You came to the right place!

Impressive books collection. Are they all game theory books?

I also love old poker stuff

I actually own this set of poker magazines you attached the pictures of! There’s a set of five.

And no, the books are not related to gsme theory. Most of the books from back then are technical strategic manuals. But there are books in other categories as well, such as fiction and cultural books.

Here are a few random vintage books from my collection. And some miscellaneous chips from my collection. The first pic is of some nyc private games that I’ve played in over the last twenty years.

Nice! I didn't think you had them, as they are magazines and you mentioned books. I must have the others, although I don't know where (just the cover photos and some pages). The stories should be interesting to read, in addition to the historical aspect.

Intersting. Do you participate in book fairs on the subject, and are there many collectors?

700 books must make a large library. When you retire from poker (fortunately, it can be played for a very long time - Doyle Brunson), you could open a museum.

Wow! Nice books, sir! I also have some, not so old, on the origin of cards. It's a fascinating subject.

Welcome.

Really cool collection. I will share that 1950’s cigarette cover and tell my wife we have new expectations.

Hello and welcome from Brooklyn! I've played at a few of those underground games in your collection ha.

I actually dont know any other collectors. My collection was from bookstores, eBay, abebooks, amazon. It's pretty hard these days to come across something I don't already have. the museum idea sounds interesting, maybe one day I would have the motivation to put that into action.

Nice!

I have also played here, several times:

nice! I guess the three places top of my list in Europe would be Monte Carlo, Barcelona, and Kings Casino in the Czech Republic.

I have a few stray older poker books from the 19th and early 20th centuries, but my main collection is the one pictured above. The road I live on is called Hoyle, so these are a fun addition to my poker room.
I do also have some Hoyle in my collection, I believe the oldest Hoyle to mention poker was from around 1844 Hoyle's Anners' edition. Theres another one in the 1850's by Thomas Frere.

OK. I was wondering if the literary field concerning cards or gambling cards represented a specific market for old books.

Same for me. I'm making the same ranking, even though I've only been to one of these 3 casinos - Barcelona. I've considered a trip to Rozvadov several times, but it didn't happen. It must be said that compared to the other 2 casinos and cities, you only go to Rozvadov to gamble.

Potter & Potter auctions sometimes features antique/vintage poker books and ephemera.
I've both bought and listed some items in Potter and Potter auctions before!

yeah exactly, the other two locations are much more attractive for that reason.
