  1. The white $1 and $2.50 snapper THCs are marvelous. Not sure why Jack Cincy made these THCs, but I can see them winding up in a lot of mixed sets or getting overlabeled/inlay replaced in future THC sets. Both of my samples were totally clean, BTW. I have a handful of the $1s that I picked up a while ago, and they were worn, so I don’t know what the condition will be in the sale.
  2. The snapper is the star of the show, obv. Just amazing.
  3. I continue to love the RHC $2 chip, which I have a rack of thanks to a harvester. Again, my sample was very clean. In person this is a gorgeous chip.
  4. The $5 is... fine. Nothing to write home about, but serviceable in an RHC set. Not a big fan of the deep gear faux shaped inlay. Sample was clean. No real comment on the oversized inlay GO chip as those just seem like novelties to me.
  5. 25s: My primary sample is very dirty and clouded. Will have to give it a bath and see how it looks. Light rounding on edges. The secondary is pretty great: Clean, sharp, bright green base, with a gold edgespot. Kind of a shame about the grey spot, which holds this back, because the yellow is also nice. Again, no real comment on the GO variant.
  6. 100s: The primary is a little dirty and quite dull; will clean and re-evaluate. Less worn than the primary 25. The inlay is not well-centered on my sample. The secondary is less weird than it looked in the original pic—the inlay color is magenta, not red. Darker than the hot pink edgespot. Again, the inlay is off-center. Clean and sharp.
  7. 500s: The primary is pretty dull, with some scratching on the inlay, and definitely in need of cleaning. The dark green spot is almost invisible, because its “weight” (lightness/darkness) is so similar to the base color. The secondary is odd but kind of great, and very clean/sharp. Again, a somewhat off-center inlay. Seems like there was some production issue on these across the set.
  8. 1Ks: The primary is dirty and more orange than radiant. The spot pattern and colors are neat, but it kind of gets outshone by the “pop” of the minty secondary. Again, need to clean the primary.
  9. 5Ks: I know people are gushing about the secondary, but my initial reaction out of the box was to favor the primary. Neither really wowed me, compared to the JD5K options. Note also that the primary has a faux shaped inlay (very slightly lighter than the base color) but for some reason the secondary uses a plain black circle.
  10. 25K 43mms: Ugh, I just don’t know why they went with the giant inlay creeping onto the mold. These don’t feel special, just oversized. The secondary is the better of the two, imho, mainly because of the pink edgespot and also because the typography is more in line with the rest of the set. The giant font on the primary looks goofy to my eye.
Overall, I think the secondaries win out, and have the advantage of little/no wear. I am going to clean and lightly oil all of them to get a better sense.

Across the whole set from 25 up, I don’t know why they put the security feature at the bottom center, rather than offset to the right as with the Jack Detroits. Kind of distracting and annoying.

Note #1: Unfortunately I did not lay the chips out consistently in this pic as far as primary/secondary placement. Sorry if that causes confusion.

Note #2: The sale thread went up after I posted this; I now see that there are batches of both used and unused for the 1s, snappers, et al., with much more limited quantities of new than used.

Here are a couple of closer-up pics showing how dirty/abused my 25 primary sample is, and the difference between the 1K sec/prim. The latter doesn't really convey how much duller the primary looks, at least pre-cleaning.

Sorry about the blur in the first pic:

Clean the 1k Pri...I actually feel it is brighter that the Sec. The Sec is a deeper color.

Wow. I didn’t even notice that green spot. I compared the two $500 chips for a few seconds, to see if they were the same base color. And I never noticed those green spots.

Those Cincy players appear to have been animals; the used primaries seem *really* used for most denoms except the very highest.

Yeah, it’s really subtle. I only noticed because the other spots seemed off-registered until I noticed the green.

Could someone take a photo of the Horseshoe 1a $1 next to the new Jack $5? Much appreciated

I haven't participated in one of these sales in a long time....this might be the one.

Will have to have some incredible luck, with the rural internet speeds, LOL.

Those THC $1s and snappers are calling me.

Update to my previous run-down of the sample set... I gave the used primaries a light faux-TSP bath, and then did some work on them with a toothbrush/toothpaste:

The used $25, which was filthy, cleaned up a great deal. It is still very used—seems like the Cincy players gave this denom a serious beating—but it is much improved with cleaning. Per the pic above, my sample was pretty rough beforehand.

The used $100 cleaned up fine, but still looks kind of dull just because of the color scheme. My sample also has light rounding to the edges. On the plus side you can see a few glints of silver in the middle spot now. Maybe an oiling would make these snazzier, but to me it is just kind of a blah chip.

The used 1K required more work than the rest. Maybe because of the brightness of the chip, some smudging which remained after this cleaning needed a second round with the toothbrush. There is still a faint amount of discoloration in spots, but it is much brighter overall than before. Still less intense than the secondary base color. I would want to ultrasonic these. Also, these are definitely used, though not as much as the 25s. You can see the surface is smoothed out in places compared to the new secondary.

The used 5K did not change much—it already was pretty clean beforehand—but you can definitely see it is used when looked at up close.

No real notes on the rest; nothing really unexpected to report.

I am kind of torn on this sale. The opportunity to mix some Jack Cincys in with my existing Jack tourney and cash sets is tempting; I could replace a few over labeled denoms with originals. I really like the $2 chip, but already have enough of those from a harvester, and love the snapper. But I’d have to be putting together a mixed spotted THC set to justify it, or overlabel/inlay replace it, so that seems pointless. The new 25s are tempting as well; one of my sets has overlabeled 25s because I didn’t care for the JD watermelons, and I could swap those for the Cincys. I have enough 1Ks and 5Ks for my tourney set, and neither 25K really moves me. Plus I only really want new chips, and Jim has indicated that those are in short supply.

May sit this one out, or come Sunday I may convince myself to put in a big order to get a handful of denoms, and then slowly liquidate what I don’t need. Gonna be a gametime decision here...

sample set finally arrived at an ontario (canada) address. looks good. just one of the 25 and 100 are dirty, and the condition is pretty reasonable. not sure if these are representative of larger supplies but will be ordering used chips regardless and this makes me feel a bit better about it.

as a first time chipper who's gotten used product it's amazing how exaggerated every flaw is when you take a close up shot of the edges (the pics provided look way worse, although it's easy to see when examining the chip why it looks that way in photos). the close ups do a disservice to the condition of the chip for practical purposes. can only imagine how pristine the used $2's will be... but otoh only a 30c premium to get mint.

The rack of $2s that I bought via a harvester were in pretty excellent shape. However, these go back a couple of years. My sense is that 2s don’t get a ton of use in most casinos compared to 1s/5s/25s.

For this very reason, I tend to break chip quality down to 3 levels:
  • Mint / Near Mint - Unused or barely used chips. If I were to sell a set, I would not describe a set as mint if I know it was ever used. Someone would drop a jewelers loop on it an see a shuffle scuffmark proving it not truly mint and destroying my reputation as a seller (not that I ever seem to sell chips). However, "Near Mint" to me is any chip where wear is not noticeable to the naked eye. At the same time, I would never pay a premium for Mint, because it would be my intention to make them Near Mint anyway.
  • Used - These are casino or frequent home game used chips that have fleabites, but still stand on edge. It can vary wildly from barely used to heavily used but not making it into the 3rd category. When harvesting a rack, you expect Used quality. You may get better or worse, but you can expect Used.
  • Bicycle Tire - This is the worn to the level that they can no longer stand on end. Still a fine chip, and even better for shuffling, but the lowest end of the quality scale.
In my opinion, Bicycle tires belong in their own sets. Used chips can be mixed with Mint/Near Mint, especially used lower denom chips and near mint higher denoms.

Beyond these 3 levels, I dont really care. If I were to be into buying/selling as a business, I might care about other quality levels, but for home game use, these 3 are all you will ever need. Don't over-think chip quality. A very clean used chip and a well loved used chip play exactly the same - once you remove the "hooker juice".
