I was just wondering what everyone’s experiences with how much poker they play yearly. Do you guys usually play all year round and if so do you play is it the same amount of games every month? Or do you and your clubs take the summer off?

I have realized with my crew we don’t play much in the summers months maybe that is because I’m from Canada and the only time we can enjoy the outdoors is in the summer lol I’m poker deprived right now :(

My season is 8 tournaments long. No poker during June, July, August, or December for Christmas. Those months drag on seemingly forever.

Was similar for my group, definitely more games in the winter as there is less to do as a group.

But the less poker played in the summer is offset by playing golf!

For us, league season runs alongside the traditional school year. We start in Sept and wrap by April. (Cash games always start up by early eliminations.) League season is our most attended with 3 full tables most games.

May-Aug we play mostly cash games or run a random tourney format like a heads up tourney. We usually gather enough for just one table, but have played two 6-handed tables as well.

From Canada and our usual monthly tournament has absolutely dried up since the weather got nice in May, and nobody has said a word about it!

Weekly, sometimes more often during summer and school breaks. Every once in a blue moon we take a weekend off if we have a concert or something cool that we can’t schedule around. Otherwise, Saturdays are the highlight of my week.

Play weekly to biweekly, but less so during the summer because of travel! Definitely host more home games in the winter/spring seasons :cool

I host Thursday Nights. Thanksgiving always pisses me off
My extended family is full of my cousins and uncles where we used to play a lot of poker together after the big meal. Now their kids are of age and have also become poker players. This last Thanksgiving I think I was the oldest one at the table...

I'll play poker whenever we can get enough for a game. It's definitely more difficult around the holidays but still happens often enough.

Note: I still took money from the younger group at Thanksgiving lol.

CFOOAS tournament season starts the Saturday before the NFC/AFC championship games, so Jan. 25ish. Do a few cash games June-July as families travel. Try to have the last tourney by mid-October to avoid the big college football weekends. Do the 8-person Championship Table no later than the 1st Saturday of January, we avoid December because of the holiday parties but sometimes we can get a night where all 8 qualifiers are available.

My league starts in Jan and runs to the Main Event in Nov.
Games normally are the first Sat of the month.
I host a large Christmas event usually the 2nd week of Dec.

Year round is all the same - since most of us are retired. The calendar and its seasons seem to have less of an impact on our scheudles.

We do 8 game seasons and usually get 4 seasons and a few games in per year. In the summer, to keep people locked into the schedule, we play numerous games online instead of live. Even our Spaniard who goes home for two weeks in July makes the online games!!

9 months on and 3 months off. Lots of the players are big into golf so they take the summer months off from poker

Usually never play much during summer - people are busy outside and enjoying the short summer in Norway. So I'm lucky if I can slide in a couple of games during june until august.

We play monthly. Have only missed 2 months in the last 4 years, and both times it was November.

Our weekly game is still going this summer, although the group changes as different people travel.

We play every 6 weeks with one 3 week gap (created when one of our players had child custody every other week). We also played every 3 weeks after the COVID lockdown to make up for lost time.

We host no games between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Only twice did we play 2 games in the same month; January 2018 and August 2020.

Here are our monthly attendance figures:

Pink highlights are Ladies night events. Men attend to serve drinks, but are not counted in the attendance figures, despite a "servants" cash game in the kitchen.

Green highlights are the annual Zombie Poker Classic which awards a +EV bonus (not to mention steak dinner).

Black highlights are cash games. Obviously, cash game attendance is lower because a lot of people do not like cash games.

Green text were games played while the world was still dealing with COVID, so we sat 5 max (then eventually 6 max) per table, masks, and hand sanitizer for every seat.

As you can see, we have no appreciable drop-off during the summer months. YMMV.

I was hoping to play year round but now I'm not sure I'm able to.
It's my first year hosting and I'm now going through 30 people before I get a table of 8.
In February I'd ask 10 people and get 8.
As a Canadian I never thought I'd say this, but summer sucks!

Like some, I host a home game once per month from November until and incuding May. I play bi- weekly at another home game during that same stretch. A small group of 9 play online at Pokerstars homegame once per week also from Nov-May
We take the summer off to golf and vacation, etc with maybe an occasional game.
