Hi, I'm Jason.

I've spent hours and hours on this forum trying to figure out "the perfect" tournament structure, and "the perfect" poker chip set. Ha! This is my first post even though i've been a reader for about a year.

About 20 years ago, My wife and I hosted free/no-cash poker tournaments as a way to get to know our neighbors while our children were very young. This was during the party poker craze where it was on TV all the time. We did this every month for several years. At our peak, we had 3 tables going inside our small duplex. Playing without money is quite a different experience than playing with cash but such a fun way to to host a party. Life happened, we moved, and stopped hosting poker games. When we moved again we sold our 3,000 dice poker chips.

Fast forward and my children were much older and our family enjoyed playing games together. They would sometimes bring their friends, but there really aren't many games that can handle more than 6 people and are also fun. I suggested we try poker. I used white/red/blue lego bricks as poker chips for that first game and I taught them how to play. It was a huge success. After that night, I bought a small set of maybe 600 poker chips. Poker became the game my family usually wanted to play. We have been regularly playing with my adult children and their friends for a few years now. This last weekend we hosted a free-poker party for people in our church and i was asked if we could do this every month.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome! Just be careful how much you read on PCF, so much good info and ideas you'll get paralysis through analysis.
A structure that's "perfect" for me may not be "perfect" for you, and vice versa, and perfect barely exists anyway.
Find chips you like that will be "useful enough", "good enough" and "expensive (or cheap) enough". You can like everything you see on here, and thus throw a whole budget outtawhack. Oh, and #GetSamples.

Welcome to the forum! (Even though we joined the same day, technically lol)

Thanks! Maybe I didn't mention that I've actually been lurking here for a long time so that advice would have been helpful when I first started. I learned on my own the futility of the idea of "the perfect" tournament and chip set and that's why it's in quotes. I'm no longer in that analysis paralysis as I've purchased two different sets already and have my own strong opinions for the games I host but reading that firehose of info was super useful.

Haha, Isn't #GetSamples a meme here? Unfortunately, I didn't know this site existed when i bought my first set. I own more than 20 different sample sets because of this site. I even purchased samples I knew I would never buy. Even when you get samples, some samples are from a different batch than what they currently sell and are a different thickness than what you purchase. When you go to stack them, a (20)100 stack is 1.5 chips thicker than the (20)5000 stack. I was asked "Does it really matter?" I don't understand how any fan of poker chips could possibly say "No". My response was heck yes, read the poker chip forum. It matters to a lot of us.

Welcome, tons of good knowledgeable people here and an abundance of great info and products , enjoy!
