Sitting Out
Hi everyone,
I’m new to the forum and excited to join the community. I’ve always enjoyed tabletop gaming — board games, card games, mahjong, and social game nights in general — and recently I’ve gone deeper into the world of poker chips and home game setups.
Funny enough, I got interested in poker chips before really getting into poker itself. I love the design, feel, denominations, and organization they bring to the table. I’m looking forward to using poker chips both for poker and for games outside of poker as well, especially for things like scorekeeping, Filipino-style mahjong, and other tabletop games with friends and family. Can’t a person collect poker chips without playing poker!?! LOL
Right now I’m still learning about all the different chip options and materials. I’ve collected around a dozen chip samples so far, and I’ve discovered that I really like the feel of 43mm chips. I may eventually end up going with 43mm hybrids — I believe those are ceramic hybrids — although clay chips definitely interest me as well. Part of the fun has been learning the differences between ceramics, hybrids, clay, weights, textures, and edge spots.
I also saw a group buy set recently that really caught my attention — I think it was called Beach Club, with surfboards on the design, possibly a 43mm hybrid set. That style really appealed to me.
I’m definitely looking forward to getting advice and recommendations from members here as I narrow down a future chip set and also creative ways to use chips.
I also wanted to mention that I found Poker Chip Forum through John from Hobbyphilic and his YouTube videos, which have been a huge help while learning about chips and the hobby.
Looking forward to learning from everyone here and seeing all the different collections and setups.
