Cash Game Interesting Thoughts: $0.25/$0.50 vs $0.50/$0.50 (1 Viewer)

Irrefutable Fundamental Tenets of Poker

1. 100% of chopped pots are small pots.
2. It takes 9 nits to make a small pot and two poker players to make a big pot.
3. If the cards matter, your game is nitty.
4. Your equity remains the same regardless of if the pot is small or big.
5. It takes longer to deal a hand than deal a flop.

#See a flop if there is no drop.

For raked games, I'm either chopping all the time or never and I'll leave that decision to the other blind... Don't care much either way...

For home games, I never chop...

As far as blind level goes, i dont think that at small stakes it changes a whole lot the game... Players matter much more than blinds...

Thats not my reason for chopping the blinds so I guess your wrong

Chopping the blinds in an unraked home game is utterly pointless. Just flip for dimes at that point (not $1000 chips, I mean actual USD dimes).

I play 50/50c with my Clevelands and 25/50c with my Truman’s. Both games play identical, but then again 80% of hands are straddled.

If your home game suffers or benefits merely from the small blind being increased by 25c, I don’t mean to be an asshole, but your home game probably sucks.

FEW, I don't care if I chop or not. If the other player wants to chop I will. if not I'm more than happy raising :)

So why is $0.50/$0.50 not more popular? I can’t recall much discussion or mention of these stakes.

Comments welcome...

Because there are few chip sets with $2 and $10. Logical progression is $0.50, $2, $10, which is why 50 cent piece is a horrible idea.

In a casino, especially with a bad beat it is not uncommon to hear players discuss that they don’t chop then (when not in a hand). Or will play if they have a hand that could make a BB, ie a PP or suited connector.

If you always chop and now you don’t want to because you have a good hand you will just get a fold anyways. There is also the argument that you shouldn’t even look at your cards until it is your action and if it folds around to you in the blinds and you normally chop you don’t need to look to chop. Just throw them into the muck.

lol i would never do this. I only chop if my hand is trash. I would never chop out of etiquette. I think people who adhere to this should rethink why they are at the table...

EDIT: Usually in a casino if BB asks me to chop I say no and then raise regardless of what my hand is and then we both laugh at how much of an asshole I am...

I would raise even trash in this spot.

Thinking that your chips must be 4x or 5x multiples of you big blind is a horrible idea.

To wit - I use a non-denominated chip for the small blind. Its value is: one small blind.

So, if we play 50¢/$1, it's worth 50¢.
If we play with 25¢ BB, it's worth 12.5¢.

If I play a $5 BB, it may be worth $2.50. Like a snapper. Or $2, if we feel like playing $2/$5, without needing so many singles.

A non-denominated chip in a set is awesome.

You don't play $0.50/$1. You bump it up to $1/$1.

One game I play in there are quarters, half dollars, dollars, So titling.

This is a great idea and now I'm rethinking a design concept.
