I don't know if I agree with this. I don't set a minimum time when I host. Anything can happen in a person's life. If they get a call and have to leave, I'm not forcing them to stay if they are still winning. Obviously, if they often or always "get a call" when they are winning, I'm probably not inviting them back, but I'm still not setting a specific minimum time that players have to play.

Good rules make good friends.
Apparently, if someone gets a credible call about an emergency, it's OK. The host is NOT the Police.
Edit: I hope it's clear they have to play for a set time if they 're winning.

In tournament all-in situations, all players must show their hands once action (betting) is complete. In cash games, players do not need to show. IMO, it's one of the aspects that make tournaments better.

I have a cash game house rule that you need to show your hands in all-ins, just like in tournaments. My rule text gives the clarification "because it's more fun that way". So far nobody has complained.

If the player is inclined to hit-and-run, he/she can easily fold for an hour or so and just lose some blinds. Although the rule may be good for making it clear that the behavior is not tolerated, it's an easy rule to side-step. A better way, IMO, is to make sure to invite players who are there to play poker, not to merely take money from friends.
IMO, a more effective way is:

So far I haven't had to. Some players have nitted up when ahead, but it's harder to draw the line there.

You can't enforce that. I don't have many regulars that sit on large stacks. Hell, a few months ago I took my 100 but in up to 400ish. Lost it all on the last two hands of the night . Ooooops

We do the, if you are not going long haul, let everyone know (I.E I gotta prob cut out around 10 everyone). Then at least a table round warning before. Then, no one really cares. You gave them a chance. Hahah

I think Tourney will be the way for me whenever I do get the chance to play. Perhaps when my newborn gets older and I can dedicate more time and disposable income I will get into cash games. YMMV, but for me a cashgame requires a lot less prep time. You basically send out invites and see who shows up and when they show up. Tourneys require more prep for me and I may need to make last minute changes to the structure if it looks like more/less players will show up. Cash games have very little over head in that regard.
However, a cashgame usually lasts a lot longer than a tourney.

With that kid, if I were a betting man (I am) I would place my money on you will soon find you have more money than free time. Cash games allow you to control your time a little more than tourneys.

For instance, if I go to the card room, I usually only play for like 3 hours. If I am in a tournament, I could be there for 20 minutes or 8 hours.
