I have a set of Asm Roman mold chips and would like to have custom labels for them. I have removed the old inlays and am waiting on a couple of racks to be milled to complete the set. My issue is I don’t really have any ideas for a theme. Zero design ideas for the inlay.

If you could pick anyone to help you with this task who would it be? Looking for some ideas of who to contact.

Thanks

I have experience with @Colquhoun and he is a pleasure to work with. Quality of his work speaks for itself. Many of the stock Tina designs are his including the Pioneer club.

But there are many talented designers for hire here.

I think my fear is that with no real clear idea of what I would like to do for an inlay I don’t want to be wasting anyone time. Design is definitely not my thing.

Surprised @timinater hasn't been mentioned yet.

Definitely love the folks people have already mentioned, plus @Quicksilver-75's stuff in the past too.

(I have done some chip design work here and there too.)

So you'll want to have an ideal of a theme, such as star wars or old school horror movies or greek gods, a high level starting point. even the best designer can't give you a better label that a polar bear in an ice storm if you don't have any direction.

In the past people have asked for theme ideals, but we are not you, we don't know what you grew up idolizing or what you spend money on out side of poker. Give us movies you like or ideas of things you spend time on, guns, space, trivia, arrow heads, gaming, cities, types of fish ...

I wouldn't reach out to a designer with, hey I want you to design the best chip on the planet with 0 input from me.

Ah, I need to work on my reading skills. I thought you had an idea and needed a designer to help you realize it, despite you saying otherwise.

I think a post (like this one) could be a good place to brainstorm. And if you have a group you play with, you might get good ideas from them. If they are excited about the set, that can only be good for your game.

@Benjaminotaur and @mconn116 to get ideas on poker room themes posted a list of words and then folks started free associating.

Here are 4 questions you can answer and maybe that will get the collective creative juices flowing:

What is you favorite movie/tv show?

What is the coolest place you have ever visited (or wanted to visit)?

Do you have a nickname or inside joke/story your friends bring up?

Besides poker, what is something you have spent too much money on?

Other people may have better prompts.

Favourite movie would be Rounders, Star Wars or Die Hard.

Coolest place visited would be Cuba back in 2017 took the wife and kids on vacation

No real nicknames to speak of.

My wife tells me I have too many pairs of shoes so that might be next to poker spending. Lol

The players I play with don’t care at all about the chips we use. They notice nice ones but we would play with denominated dice chips and they would be perfectly ok. I know just find other players. Lol

Great prompts @GreekRedEye. Here are a few others:

Do you have a favorite casino?

Does your home have any kind of theme, architecturally or design-wise (decor)?

Do you have a custom topper with a design (I assume not)?
No favourite casino but old school ones I like better. Flamingo or Sands or Mirage, thunderbird.

My house is a character home built in 1910. I do have a thread on here for games I’ve hosted called This old house poker edition. Lol

You will need a theme or a rough idea for a designer to help you.
Swift Current is a start, Water Falls, etc incorporated in the inlay.
Rough Riders are in your Province. Broncos Hockey team, etc.
I'm sure you can come up with something...The S for the rough riders is kind of interesting, or one of the many Broncos logo..

I would agree with the broncos or riders but I’ve only been out here for 10ish years. Originally from Ontario so I’m a
Leafs
Raptors
Blue Jays
Bills
Manchester United fan.

Thought about maybe a Georgian Bay theme. Spent a lot of time on the water growing up. Or some sort of prairie theme

A quick search of PCF shows Nakatomi Plaza (the tower/company in Diehard) has been done.

Star Wars...maybe a seedy little outpost somewhere has a poker room? Could make label look like it said "Imperial Credits" and then altered to "Republic Credits" or something like that.

I don't know if your sci fi interest is limited to Star Wars, but there are several sci fi movies and shows with potential. I watched a series called "The Expanse" and at one point thought one of those "belter" stations out in the asteroid belt (I think one was called Pallas Station) needed its own chip set.

Cuba has legs. I'm hoping to make a Cuba-related set myself at some point. Maybe you can provide more details on your trip - any cool restaurant, club, or district you visited?

Are you into cocktails? I have a couple cocktail names I think could make for cool poker room or poker set names.

Talk more about this.

And if I found the right Georgian Bay in google maps (north of Toronto on Lake Huron) there are some places around there that could make for a nice name or concept. There is a "Blind River" for crying out-loud!

I'm a fan of a theme on one side and the denom on the other. My latest theme is 'River Championships', we joke about it at the table - 'This week on River Champs...' when a live card hits the river.

this is different than my Icarus set, here the theme and the denom are together. Most recently I was thinking I might prefer a delete on the trophy, but not too worried about it.

I feel your pain being a Leaf Fan...At least the Jays and Raptors have won something that you can readily remember.

That’s the right one. A huge bay off of Lake Huron. Killbear provincial park. Had a trailer on a piece of property we nick named camp Yo-Yo. Red Rock light house and Franklin island. Island Queen tour of the 30,000 islands. Parry sound home of Bobby Orr.
