Identify these chips? (1 Viewer)

Don't say "for poker buyin" or "gambling." But I've never had a problem.

There were issues with PayPal when it was being used for PokerStars tournaments, and if I recall, a member got his account locked. Since it is attached to your bank account, you cannot just open a new account. As far as I know, nobody was foolish enough to list poker, gambling, or PCF (which has it's own non-gambling connotation). The number crunchers aren't dumb, and they do care about their service being used legitimately.

That may be, although I thought the PCF P* tourneys were still processed using PayPal. In any event, these college kids won't be using PayPal, and I've seen plenty of home game buyins funded with Venmo (not to mention March Madness, fantasy football, and God knows how many golf bets among regulars exchanged back and forth) without incident.

Yeah, I think it'll be okay at small stakes. Now, if we were playing like 200NL or 500NL that could get on their radar.

Also I meant to ask, what do you mean by "oiled up"? These chips look gorgeous. Maybe if we do tournaments in the future I'll get the higher denoms + plaques

when you first receive the chips in the 25 pack they will look chalky and have dust on them. i believe all china clay chips do. I use mineral oil to make them look shiny and clean. basically i put a little dab on a cloth or towel and i circulate around the outside rim of the chip. once i do that i do another swipe with a clean towel (its a process) to get it as nice and clean. you can also just use them as is, and as they get passed around in the game, the oil's from your hands will work them in as well, just takes a little bit longer to get them looking like the picture. Everyone has different ways of oiling their chips, i just found that way to work for me. and yes i love their plaques! i just got an additional 20 (5K plaques) and 5 (25K plaques) to go with another set i have. They work well with different sets.

Did you find that oiling the Majestics makes them (even) more slippery?

yes they do tend to slip on the first use of them. Personally i like the way the $100 slide off each other when making a $400 bet... feel like i'm in a movie. lol
Did oiling make any difference, either way?

No issues with pcf & p*, so long as you only list your username and not the letter pcf. Been using it for three years, almost daily.

The account that got locked was for a march madness pool, i think. PP looks a lot closer a transactions during that time of year.

Another beginner tip, get a setup of plastic playing cards. I personally prefer KEM and @desjgn cards, bridge size, jumbo index. The difference between these and the paper cards is noticeable with regards to shuffle and pitching. Also, they will last significantly longer and end up saving you money in the long run.

I was actually about to ask about this too. Thanks! Why bridge size over Poker size? I guess the upfront cost will payoff in long run but still, that's expensive!

Also, I think I like the desijgn style better, where is the best place to purchase them?

Also, what about Copag? I like the look and they are cheaper and easily available on Amazon

Bridge size is universal in poker rooms.
Bridge size is easier to shuffle, in particular people with small hands.
There are very, very few people that hate bridge size. Quite a few that hate poker size.
Bridge size is easier of multi-card games like Omaha, Big-O, and others. Both sizes work equally as well for Hold'em.

The only reason I haven't shipped off my Poker size cards, is so new hosts can feel the difference before buying their own.

All have preferred bridge size.

I just edited my original message but I wanted to ask if you had any experience with Copag?

Those are what i've used in the past but my experience is that they are easily bent or marked over the course of a month i've experienced. but i love the feel and the jumbo size(Bridge Size) ones are great looking! but the downside is they can be marked easily in my opinion. not sure about the others. I've purchased some cards on amazon called ICE and those have lasted me about a year so far with no issues. love them.

Copag is still one of my favorite, based mostly on price-point. The cards do fade with shuffling, and will need to be replaced more often, but not even remotely as often as paper cards.

If your group is still learning how to shuffle properly, I would stick with Copag. Overhand shuffling (the way most children learn to shuffle) increases the number of "dings" in the sides of the cards, requiring those decks to be replaced more frequently.

I've had Copag and they are great cards. I personally really prefer the texture of the KEM and Desjgn Casino Cards. The Copag's and DaVinci cards can be had on amazon pretty cheaply. Both will be a giant step up from paper cards.

Now we need to talk about your playing surface and which hot dog roller you are going to purchase.

I use Copag for most games - can't beat the value and I won't cry if one gets creased or bent due to a drunk buddy. I have Kems for when I'm feeling fancy and Ace when I play with the kids.

Bridge size because they are easier to handle in my small hands and the community cards take up less real estate on the table.

Jumbo pips so that everyone around the table can see the community cards without using a telescope.

There's a lot of guys on here that think anything larger than regular index is unusable. I got tired of answering "what card is that" from the other end of the table, so jumbo index is all I get.
