I was thinking about the rat-holing thread and how having some chips from the bank readily accessible would have made dealing with that situation easier. Buy-in stacks could be ready to go, as well as some barrels of larger denominations. Also low denoms for making change. I just have a Barrington table so I don't have a built-in rack or a spot for one. I could have a tray of chips clearly distinct from my own buy-in, or have that tray on a side table...

But it also seems like the kind of thing that you don't want to both play your own chips AND have a bank right in front of you. It doesn't confer an advantage but players could see an opportunity to not be careful and co-mingle the two. Also that's another set of chips to protect (chips that DON'T have corresponding cash in the bank).

Does anyone play with a bank rack on the table and have pros/cons from their experiences?

For cash game I leave the min buy in starting stack tubes in the empty seat next to me and some big chips for bigger buy ins in another tube. People can buy in as the game fills without me getting up. We sit 9 but start with 6.

It’s easier than getting up and since game is filling there’s an empty seat. Since they’re in tubes the starting stack distinction is not a problem.

Having pre-made buy-in stacks isn't always practical. What if someone wants to buy in for a bit less, or a bit more? Or if someone wants to top off between hands? You'll still need to go to the bank.
I like the chips in a drawer method.

True. My tubes are min buy in stacks of 35 chips to get small chips out. A few more of big chips in a tube to flesh out for larger buy in. Once tubes are gone it’s a spin around to chip drawer for reloads which start with a rack+ of 3rd lowest denom in play. After that it’s 4th + largest denoms only.

Tubes are great to have the small chips counted and getting them out. Op can use them as a hybrid approach vs open racks and avoid people saying or thinking he went north or south. Once you’re onto the biggest demons in play the rebuy may be 1 or 2 chips so 1 tube left in front of OP can be 20-40 buyins.

In think it’s worth a try.

Unless you have a paid, non-playing dealer, it seems like a huge waste of table space. I'd never consider it. I keep the chips in a case by my feet; the drawer idea sounds great too. I also think that buy-in stacks or buy-in tubes are impractical. Whatever works for you is fine, of course, but In a cash game, people can buy in for whatever they want. It shouldn't be too difficult to count out those chips pretty quickly.

Yes to be clear my tubes are gone in about 45 mins and usually before table fills to 9 so space not an issue.

Counting a starting stack of 35 or 38 chips in 3 denoms absolutely takes a ton of time.

But rebuys are fast from chip drawer. I’ll give you that.

I decided against having a dealer tray. For my stakes and not having a full time dealer, would rather have the extra felt space.

I’ve not added a drawer to my table yet, a few folk shared examples with me here:

Don't waste money for the usb sockets. Buy instead a power bank.
If someone is running out of battery... here you go!
In my opinion, the best poker table gadget is the drawer for chips/cards.
If GG is not offering this feature, you can easily install it yourself.

This is my table with a sliding chips tray.
Just an extra 'yes' to the drawer, installed a basic one on the Barrington and its been very useful for bank, rebuys, extra cards, whatever you need.

I usually have a couple of racks with set buy ins with mixed denoms off to the side on a nearby cabinet, then after a couple rebuys it’s mostly in $5s so easy to cut out what you need.

GL!

I have a side table where I keep the extra bank and other stuffs

Don't want to accidently mix the chips into the game in anyway

It’s been said but I’ll reiterate; drawer. They sell them or you can build one. I’m building a new Lame Curve 10 seater and before I sell my current Stadiun Oval I’m pulling the drawer.
