In Draw poker, if a player is degen enough to want to draw five cards, which five cards should he receive? Which of the following two rules is more common?

Robert's Rules of Poker
A player may draw up to four consecutive cards. If a player wishes to draw five new cards, four are dealt right away, and the fifth card after everyone else has drawn cards. If the last player wishes to draw five new cards, four are dealt right away, and a card is burned before the player receives a fifth card.

2019 WSOP Live-Action Rules
A participant may draw up to five consecutive cards

Bob's is the official rulebook of my home game. But in truth, I haven't seen this come up in a casino.

That's beyond me although I played once NLH with someone specialized in 5 card draw. Very profitable..

To be honest, the reasoning in RROP for implying a difference between four or five consecutive dealt cards is beyond me. I'm sure Bob has a reason for doing so, but I think it happens so infrequently that I'd just go with the 'deal five consecutive cards' rule just for simplicity and consistency.

I've seen players draw 5 cards. My experience is they get dealt 5 cards straight. They get what they want. They're fun to with.

It happens a lot in a fixed limit game if it limps to the big blind and he has crap.
But I have no idea what that rule is about.

I would guess the idea is that it is somehow easier to manipulate the deck with five favorable cards in one spot that it would be if you forced a burn card in between.

Not being an expert in such mechanics, I wouldn't know

nothing stupid about drawing five cards... you're in the big blind and it's limped to you... you have absolutely nothing... you check, toss your hand, and ask for a new one...

In a 2-7 triple draw hand, one of our players drew 5 and then patted the remaining streets. I don't recall the stakes, but he bet aggressively. Was he bluffing?

Nope. He turned over 7-5 perfect! Of course he did!

Lesson learned: If you're going to be a total degen, make sure to be a luckbox as well.

To address the OP's question, when I host we follow RROP. This is not one of the very few exceptions. Although it rarely comes up, I find it easy to remember that a player may not draw 5 consecutive cards.

Edited to correct spelling.

I'm still interested in exactly why Robert included this rule.

Drawing 4 cards = not possibly cheating. Drawing 5 cards, must be cheating?

This situation happened once in my home game (NL 2-7). It was the first time that player played this game.
I followed RROP.

From RROP for private (home) games, Section 16, Explanations:

9. At lowball and draw high, some rule sets allow a player to draw five consecutive cards. The rule used here disallowing this makes cheating more difficult. Our rule #10 in lowball and rule #5 in draw high says, “A player may draw up to four consecutive cards. If a player wishes to draw five new cards, four are dealt right away, and the fifth card after everyone else has drawn cards. If the last player wishes to draw five new cards, four are dealt right away, and a card is burned before the player receives a fifth card.”

Most home games use antes, not blinds, for draw.

...and invited them back?

My rules will now state the table must get up to stomp and count out loud when dealing a player 5 cards, the number of the cards. Singing the full song is optional....

For my NL2-7 tourney games, there's a small blind, big blind, big blind ante (equal to SB + BB) and limp is not allowed.
