The longer the betting, with the slowest blind levels possible.

However, most of us have time constraints so a minimum of 5 hours is my preference despite voting 6+ hours.

We run two two-table events on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to midnight (noon-11pm on the occasional Sunday). Each tournament has roughly 4.5 hours of play (plus breaks) with a dinner break between events.

For weeknights 4 hrs for two table tourney. Start at 7:00 over by 11:00. It’s a little shorter than I would like but ending at 12:00 or 12:30 would be too late for my crew.

2-3 hours usually, once I get a bigger pool of players, I'd like to have 4-5 hour tournaments.

Home games with up to 2 tables I would prefer 3- 4 hours if it is a night game. For >2 tables or a mid day game the longer the better. For casinos I like the nightly to last ~6 hours with regular day tournaments to last as long as possible, many days being preferred.

Our league events start at 6:30 pm and end at 12:30 with a chip count victory if necessary. Our blind structure ensures that we're usually done by midnight and we've never have had to do chip counts.

I'm glad to see this poll. Ours are designed to run 4 hours, and on average last from 3:20 (usually 3:40) to 4:20. I voted for 5 hours because that is what I prefer.

I've actually lost some players because they think our game is too long. It's nice to hear we are on the short end of tournaments as far as length goes.

Heads-up tournaments with Mrs Zombie, 2 hours are typical. We also have a 4 hour and a 6 hour in our 26 game Heads-up schedule (yep, we have a H-U schedule).

On airline flights, we schedule tournaments to last from 15 minutes after take-off to 15 minutes before landing.

Other Zombie events run 4.5-5 hours, including breaks, but not counting dinner. I would like an annual 8 hour tournament to be added in, but most people are just too busy to dedicate an entire day to cards.

In card rooms I prefer the 4-6 hour tournaments. They play closer to a home game. Longer tournaments tax my attention span and I get sloppy.

To me it really depends if there are other gambles to be had.
If the tourney is the only thing available, then I want a mid-length tourney. If the tourney is a prelude to cash games or if there are other diversions available, then longer is better for me.

I'd also say that it depends on the time of day the tourney starts.

Our 1 table tournament (9 people) run from 17.30 and usually last to around ~23.30, so about 6 hours (including 20 min breaks).

I think what @Blind Joe was alluding to with his question was that you can still have a 6-8 player tournament last 4-5 hours, if that is what you want. :)
I like them shorter because the gf doesn't have to be hiding in our room since I monopolize the kitchen/living room.

Preferably, regardless of entry fee and number of players, the longer the better, but realistically, the answer is the same as the answer to most poker strategy questions, “It depends”.

For most home tournaments, I like a minimum of three hours for the first table and one additional hour for each additional table (preferably a bit longer even). For higher dollar home tournaments or league championships, I like a minimum of six hours for the first table and an additional hour per table (preferably quite a bit longer even).

Wow, I am jealous that some of you apparently know lots of people that like long tourneys.

If its a single table, 3-4 hours followed by a cash game. If its multi table, 5 hours is the sweet spot.
