For me:
- Not wanting to have a lot of cash at my apartment at a given time
- Players not wanting to carry a lot of cash to a game
- Reduce the number of digital transactions at a time
- Clear method for both parties to independently verify how much you are in/out for
- Less friction to rebuy/add on to generate more action
Has no one run into any problems from having tons of odd transactions on Venmo or PayPal every time you hold a game?
I would think it would look pretty fishy to anyone monitoring these sites for fraud/money laundering/illegal gambling/sports betting, etc. when a user regularly accepts hundreds or even thousands of dollars from a fairly consistent pool of “buyers,” and then redistributes similar amounts among those same “sellers” within 6-18 hours, and usually on the same day of the week/month.
Leaving player can pay someone who is up and a likely winner (but risks an additional transaction for that person if they turn out to lose or win less than they are paid)

I do a simple excel sheet that everyone can see during the night. I don’t keep stats long term and don’t tell players if they are big winners or losers throughout their poker night at my place.
Our players usually all stay until the end. There is one guy though, who when playing, usually dusts off a bunch of buy-ins quickly and is done early. He then sends me (the bank) his losses and I add it to my balance on the spread sheet.

I’ve just never hosted a cash game where everyone left at the same time. We go from 8/9 to 7 to 6, then someone shows up late so we go back to 7, then two people bust, so we are down to 5, then 4, then the last few degens stay another two hours playing circus games...
