Yep — you didn’t misread the title, I’m looking to build a small micro-stakes hotstamp set, to gift to my 10 year old godson, who I am teaching to play poker, for him to use with his friends.

I am currently working on acquiring a THC-based micro-stakes set from a single cardroom, but while that possibility meanders into existence, I’m building a backup set.

This is the backup set I’m putting together, and what I’m looking for, all THC hotstamps.

1¢ X 100 (have)
5¢ X 300 (need)
25¢ X 100 (have)
$1 x 100 (have)

An alternative would be:

5¢ X 100 (need)
10¢ X 200 (need)

50¢ X 300 (have)
$1 x 100 (have)

I’m looking for 3 racks of Hotstamped nickels in excellent condition, and the only color it can’t be is in the orange and brown palette.

I have zero idea what these go for, but as always, I will pay well. Also, would like to know if it’s not possible.

Thanks for your help.

I believe you'll be looking for these. Sorry, but I had to chuckle at the micro stakes. Although that rack of pennies is well, unobtanium

If you're looking for another godson just shoot me a PM. Thats sets gonna be sick though so please share pics when its done!

What about a custom HS set from CPC? Or a set of blanks from CPC or elsewhere and get a PCF member who has a HS machine to do the stamping for you?
That would take too long, I think. I also like the idea of showing him what I love, and a THC micro-stakes set would be amazing!

Regarding time frames all depends on the mold etc. You could also probably consider a set of custom ceramics that a bright and vibrant and have some theme the hes interested in etc.

I understand the enthusiasm of wanting to pass on and share a past time with close family/friends etc, but ultimately its a gift for 10 year old, so it should be about something hes going to love rather than what you love. By doing so hes more likely to engage in learning the past time you are wanting to share with him. The love of poker chips will come later after the love for playing poker with people has been instilled.

Also, do you really want a 10-year-old and his friends playing with a one-of-a-kind rack of chips in a set that, in total, probably costs $5+/chip?

There are extraordinarily few racks of hot stamped Paulson nickels. When Paulson began business, nickel chips were almost extinct. Almost. Other than ridiculous denominations, like 1 cent or 70 cents, that's going to be your rarest rack to find. As far as I can tell, this is the entire list of possibilities. I think "Jimbo's Card Room" is my favorite.

AJ nickel is such a stand out chip

Well, he’s not going to be keeping them in his room, I’m getting them for my collection so he has chips to play with whenever he wants to play with his friends. His parents want it to be in a controlled environment, so I thought It would be nice to add a set at the bottom denom end to my collection that was earmarked to teach him, and eventually, when he’s smart / old enough to cherish things he collects, they could transfer over to him.

That was the idea anyway.

I don’t know much about the micro denoms, but it’s interesting to realize there are so few options out there.

Just a suggestion : why not use $1, $5, $25, $100 chips (or 1, 5, 25, 100 chips) and play them as cents ?

The advantage is that he will be able to continue to use it later if he wants to play higher stakes by just adding a frac.

OCD gets the best of some of us... personally at almost every meet up someone says we can play the 100x rule ($1 = $.01 or $5 is your smallest chip and equals $.05) I am not a fan of this... I understand for the rare "one time" ehh ok. But if we are at a meet up let's use the right thing! I guess to each their own...

What I would consider acceptable personally is the NCV tourney chips that just have a 1-5-25-100 and so on... there is no dollar or cent sign designation on these. The Ilse Casino Cap Girardeau comes to mind... I am sure there are others. Unfortunately I don't own any of the low denom chips that were sold, this set went all the way down to NCV .50!

They had a white NCV 1... I could see that being played as a penny, the red 5 as a nickle and so on.

But given who Krish is and his means... I would love to see an authentic penny nickle set built! And absolute dream of mine, and he has the only rack of authentic casino used pennies that I know of! Shoot for the real thing Krish!!

My micro sets, unfortunately I have not taken an updated pic!

Well I have this one to show progress on the $1s

And then our FOC BCC set!

Ready for 2 tables of $.05/$.10 or 2 tables of $.10/$.20

The only other micro I have ready to go and got table time at two meet ups this year is the Mixed TRKs

It takes time an effort, but using the real thing is just much more rewarding IMO!

Is it dumb building sets of poker chips for a $.05/$.10 game for thousands of dollars... sure! But again this hobby is different to everyone! Our collection is mostly built around family poker, I come from a low income family that just enjoy the game. They have no idea what my hobby costs, they just enjoy playing!

Build the real thing Krish!! I think you will trully get a kick out of it!!

Your chippin buddy Ben

But seriously, I think it should be fairly easy for Krish to find a rack of the AJ nickels, no? I don’t know total numbers or anything but I feel like there are some extra racks floating around. I’ve traded/bought a few in the past couple years to get better condition. Anyway, GL Krish and love to see your sets, as always, Ben.

For a game with kids, you may want to stick with unleaded chips. Kids are known for touching stuff, then eating, etc. Don't get me wrong, would love to see the type of set you're thinking of, but kids are kids!
Interesting, good point
