I would love to know everyone’s honest opinion on AS chips. I am looking to spend some money on my first quality poker chip set and I’m debating about going for some AS’s. Please feel free to also reccomend different chips as well!

I've played with these and loved them. Great colors and beautifully designed. These were put together with alot of thought & no doubt a favorite.

Some of the best chips around - 39mm and 43mm! Only downside I can find is the $1s - they have light pink in them I believe which is a color that can have some color changing issues. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this

It’s pretty easy to build a set of them and to add on. So from that perspective they are one of the better NAGB chips to build with. Just another way of saying anybody that posts a wanted ad for them gets it filled pretty quick and easy.
Most of the others of this kind seem to be harder to obtain and trade hands less frequent.
Tigers are still settling around.

They 're like a bottle of Chateau Petrus red French wine, tagged at $5,000.
Sure, ultra fine, but NOT worth the current price. The price has been a product of fame and limited supply; not beauty alone.
If you become a connoisseur, by reading a lot and seeing a lot here, and by asking lots of questions, you may be able, in the end, to spot the wine bottle that's equivalent, at a fraction of the price.

What’s your budget?

lol, haters gonna hate. Quality-wise, the AS chips are the exact same as any other Paulson THC mold chip produced in the last 15 years. Design-wise, well that's more subjective and a matter of personal taste (and opinion). Cost-wise, they are more expensive than some modern-era THC mold sets, and less expensive than others. The cash set chips tend to be on the less-expensive side.

What's most important is do the chips speak to you.

If the chips speak to him, what does he have to do?
Edit: other than compromise his family's financial schedule?

Incredibly expensive and not that mind blowing.

I’ve never been a fan of these chips for lots of dumb reasons and one good one - I don’t like the inlay.
But the prices on these have been dropping consistently. Based on these prices below, I wouldn’t consider them overly expensive for mintish THCs.

I am not sure yet how to correctly respond to everyones post here so I'll do it under this reply. Thank you all for your input!!

As to my budget, I currently do not have one. I do understand that if I want a higher end chip set I am going to have to drop a pretty penny.

And thats totally fine, my opinion still stands. Nothing personal, but Im not buying any rack for $400, and I dont think their design is amazing. Tiger $1s or hotstamps got me, I might consider the money, but these dont appeal.

They're garbage compared to your own custom CPCs, but if I had the cash they'd be acceptable as an interim set that could be sold later.

Take your time and get samples.

For my money, the Aurora Star cash set is still one of the best of all the modern “not a group-buy” Paulson sets (I have a set of approx 1000 myself). Chips are subjective, but I’d probably rank the AS my 3rd favourite of all the NAGB cash sets, behind the Big Top Poker and the Tiger secondaries.

In the end, take some time and buy whatever appeals to YOU (and fits within your budget).

Ironically, I’ve been wanting a set too. I actually really like those chips. Price seems to have dropped on them lately.
