Quickest way to get a meaningful answer is for you to identify and list your 'known' or 'very recognizable' casino names. My list of known and/or recognizable casinos is likely a lot different than yours.... and also apparently irrelevant to the conversation. Give us a starting point, along with the specific denominations and quantities your dream set will require.

Sets from closed Vegas casino are pretty rare, since they are required by state law to destroy the chips. Vegas sets in mint/near-mint condition are even more rare. Short of buying live chips at face value directly from a casino that is currently open, it's pretty unlikely (nearly impossible, in fact) that you'll find a 'name' Vegas casino set that meets your listed requirements.

Sounds like a custom set tribute to a known casino may be your best bet.
Gotcha. I will do some more homework and repost. Thanks

Hi all. Obviously I am new here, Don't really know any of the lingo yet.
However, I think I have the sickness...
While searching this site for a home game set, I saw a posting for an amazing lot of Aviation Club Jetons. Well, I was too late... If anyone here has some they would like to sell, I am a buyer!

Enough dreaming. I am looking for a large cash game set. I have broke friends and wealthy friends. So, I need fractionals for my beer buddies and larger denominations for the Yamasaki guys.

Preferences: Very recognizable casino, prefer (not mandatory) 60s 70s good old days of vegas.
Must be very clean and as near uncirculated as possible.

Price isn't the main issue. Can spend a few $k...

if the person that bought all the Aviation Club Chips wants to double his money, give me a shout PLEASE

Thanks

pretty much what BGinGA said.

Also, I was new about a year ago...takes a while to know the people around here, but truly one of the most amazing group I have ever been involved with The knowledge level is off the charts. You'll be amazed at how smoothly most of the transactions happen on PCF, especially given how much money and how may chips pass around here.

There are some chips sets form Puerto Rico and Aruba casinos that may interest you. But before doing anything else, my two best advice to you are: First, get lots of sample sets. I spent a couple of hundred dollars buying sample sets and thought it was a waste of money to buy any more. That was a HUGE mistake. buy LOTS of sample sets as there are tremendous differences between chips, even Paulson chips. Second, TAKE YOUR TIME. If you don't have an absolute urgent deadline, take a couple of months and explore the site, ask lots of questions and decide, based on your sample sets, and other factors, what you want to buy. I started buying the first big set that became available, and since then have bought 4 more Paulson sets and a TRK set that are incomplete, but hopefully will be completed soon. (y)

Welcome to PCF

Might be tough to get a bunch of 25's, but the rest can be had...

They show up every once in a while in the classified. If you put a wanted ad up, you may get a response. Your ability or willingness to pay extra will help you find some.

Search the old classified and you can get an idea of the price they were selling at.

Thank you!

(about the Wynns not having less then a 25 denomination)

True

But if you tolerate a different mold, you could harvest 1's and 5's till your hearts content.

If those are live chips at Hard Rock Tampa, and you like them, then start harvesting. You won't do better than $1 each for paulson

Makes sense. If all my home game buds weren't also hard rock regulars. Might cause an issue.?
But good point

take ur time. get samples. 60s/70s and uncirc damn near impossible in quantity.
highly doubt anyone will take advantage of u around here. ask lots of questions. take advantage of the search function. browse the galleries.

what about a 60s/70s custom tribute set? the old molds are still around. and lots of good designers here.
or a live set - meets ur uncirc and recognizable criteria. and u can cash them in when done with them.

here is an example of a live set. place just opened up the road.

Thanks for info! I am going relax and do some serious searching.

And don't forget the guy who made a home set of live Bellagio chips. Would only run you chip face value of $9,200, and a few weeks of harvesting time (plus the cost of any fracs you'd want to add on)...

So I was giving this challenge some thought. Your goal is "name" casinos in near mint condition. I propose the following:

A Vegas casino mixed set similar to what @David O showed above. This will allow you to have multiple name casinos in one set without repeats. Don't have two denoms from the same casino because then it feels like a set from that casino with a few chips from somewhere else.

This allows you to acquire Vegas fracs from known (Binion's Horseshoe) or lesser known (Joker's Wild, Railroad Pass, or Main Street Station) casinos in very good condition. You can then get mint/near mint live dollars from places like New York New York, Paris, Venetian (or a host of others). You can get mint/near mint live fives from the same list of casinos (just don't repeat). Perhaps a member in Vegas can harvest these for you for a small fee. For your $25 and $100 you can look into the more collectible chips (since you are buying fewer) from closed casinos. This would include the Dunes that you have excluded, but also Tropicana. If you opened the location up to other venues, you could include Horseshoe Cleveland/Cincy... there are a host of other casinos but I don't believe they are known enough for your criteria (Empress, Casablanca, Grand Victoria...)

What's the buyin of your games? What games, limit, no limit? If you spread 10 racks of 5s in a game, going with live chips would get costly.

here's the mixed Vegas house mold set that I am currently building. Yes, the 25c chips are relabeled but I couldn't resist a super nice rack of those Excaliburs. And yes, the $20's are oversized...however I will almost never put the 100's in play, so I wanted the 20's in 43mm size. FYI, having a bitch of a time finding those old Bally blues

Newbie question here, but if it's state law to destroy chips from closed casinos how to large sets get out for sale on PCF? Are most simply harvested or sold off when a casino changes its chips without shutting down?

I think one reason is every state can have different laws, I am not sure about the casino's that are still open, how they just decommission them, certainly some casinos change from one parent company and get bought out and then maybe those chips no longer hold value since that company is gone, but the physical casino is still there.
