Hello everyone!

New here, I figured I'd introduce myself: started NLHE 15ish years ago, mostly played on-and-off, some live house games and some online, and played in casinos a couple of times.
I think I've only played with dice chips in house games, and I'm in need of a new hobby, so wanted to dip my toes in the chip world.
I've been meaning to start a regular cash game (once the pandemic settles a bit), so I'm fantasizing and preparing, buying chip samples, buying cards, looking at table toppers, etc.

How do you like your majestics? I’m thinking about these as well.
Hi Uscfan81,
I'm replying on my intro thread so as not to hijack the other one, and because I might as well post some pics :)

I just finished cleaning them a few days ago, oiled them and waiting for them to dry (I'm told the oiling is not as necessary for china clay chips, but figured I'd go all the way, making them pop, etc.).

I'm a newbie, so Majestics sounded like a perfect first set for me. (I recently saw someone else getting some Horseshoe chips as a first set--I wish I could do that, don't have the bank for it at the moment.) I got a few samples for relatively cheap chips that had a nickel denomination (or a blank one): Majestics, Pharaohs, Dia de los Muertos, thought the DDLM looked really cool but maybe a bit too busy/crowded, and the friends I surveyed all preferred the Majestics, for a more simple but still classy-looking chip. I also wasn't a fan of the sound the DDLMs made (they're ceramics), preferring the duller sound of the china clays. The Majestics were quite stinky when they came, so cleaning them with some vinegar+water solution did wonders.

I might put them in play this weekend with the in-laws.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like the toes above have dipped into a vast ocean of chips! Congrats on the new set, hope to see some action shots of the game once things are a bit back to normal!

Congratulations on your first real set of chips @Nicolas ! Doesn't matter what your budget is or anyone else. As long as you are happy with your chips! Fantastic job on the breakdown also, someone dis their homework on proper set breakdown!!

Of course you have heard Paulsons are king but I made it over 15 years with a set of way less quality than yours!

Look at that mix of junk!! Lol we own many decent quality sets and do not look in the background there... but I still own these hunks! We all have to start somewhere budd ug and you are absolutely doing it the right way, and even taking the time to compression oil them!

Again Congratulations!
Fellow Chipper Ben

Also @Apache still has Dealer Buttons to match your set on their website. I am guessing that is where you bought the set. Starting out a dealer button is a dealer button, but might be cool to add a matching button to your set!

Not trying to entice you to spend more money, just wasn't sure if you were aware or not sir!

Thanks! I'll try to post a pic if I play this weekend.

To be honest, I did the compression oiling at first, but then got a bit lazy and oiled the rest of them relatively quickly. Will do proper compression oiling when they fade and I have more time on my hands.

I did get my chips from Apache, and I saw the Majestic dealer button there, but opted not to get it -- I prefer the more simple dealer button, and didn't feel the need to make the set Majestic-themed all the way to the button. Though maybe I should get it to compare, just in case... ;)

Since this is my thread, let's get into cards... I got some:
• Copags (bridge jumbo) -- don't have the best reputation here it seems, but I like them so far.
• Fournier 2826 (bridge jumbo) -- not a fan of the "security red".
• Bicycle Prestige (poker regular) -- I wasn't a big fan of poker-sized cards last I handled some, but these are kinda nice. (I still prefer bridge-size, though.)

In the mail:
• Fournier Flor de Lis (bridge jumbo) -- got them because supposedly a brighter red than the 2826.
• Desjgn Baroque (bridge jumbo) -- not the biggest fan of the font: asymmetrical, too close to the inner border, but got them because everyone's raving about Desjgn.

So far I'm liking the Copags best, but am anticipating the Flor de Lis to be my go-tos. Going for jumbo indices for visibility (my anticipated players will include some seniors).

Welcome to the forum! Not sure if it’s your cup of tea or not, but my players love the copags because of the 4-color jumbo index. They are poker sized, but the bunch of online players that I’m friends with love the blue diamonds and green clubs. I’m not sure if any other brands offer a 4-color deck.

We use mostly Copag and Desgjn cards... prefrence to Desgjn but usually use Copag. Some like thinner like KEM, too flimsy for my taste and also have had a few sets where the corners break off. Also have used Midiano and the cards are nice but they faded/printing worn down on the faces after about 500 shuffles. We have have zero issues with copag, the price is right so why try to replace something that isn't broken.but nothing wrong with trying out everything and making your own decisions.

Thanks! I've never tried 4-color decks, but I don't think they'd be my cup of tea -- I expect they'd be a bit too "modern" for my tastes, I guess I'm "old school" like that.
I've seen 4-color decks from other brands, but couldn't name them off the top of my head.

Great point, for new players we often use 4 color copag. For a regular game with seasoned players we use 2 color. Also we prefer Poker over Bridge but use both, also Jumbo index because I see zero advantage to the smaller regular index. In low lighting often found when playing poker why not have larger #'s on the cards.

I can think of one advantage of the regular index: not having to lift the cards as much -- with a regular index you can just lift the corners whereas with the jumbo index you need to lift more of the cards.

Again there is a reason they make different sizes, find what you like and works best for you. Just sharing what we prefer. We play micro and relatively small stakes poker not really serious poker. Also there are games that are 6 - 7 card games like SheShe, when you have to split your cards into 2 hands. Try to make 2 hands without lifting the cards off the table, it's not easy. If you are worried about others trying to look at your cards based off of how high you raise them off the table, it may be time to find new poker buddies!

I will stick with Jumbo index, helps after the alcohol starts kicking in well and letters and numbers begin blurring into one! Lol

I wasn't dissing 4-color decks at all (just making sure!) -- and I also will be playing microstakes and prefer jumbo indices (for visibility). The comment about regular indices & lifting cards was more for comfort than fear of others seeing the cards, it's more effort to lift jumbos more -- I guess I'm *that* lazy

Green chips are my favorite, but the color combo on those yellows is very nice, playing micro you are going to see them the whole time playing. Pretty bad ass to have an awesome color at the bottom of the line up!

Uh-oh, I'm starting to play around with the CPC chip design tool... Down the rabbit hole I go!

each chip looks good individually, but a lot of dirty stack potential between denoms. i would recommend not repeating so many edge spot colors.

also FYI that is one of the more expensive spot patterns, you're looking at over $4 per chip for these.

Thanks, excellent point. I was hoping it wouldn't be too much of a concern, and that having some of the same edge colors could bring it all together as a theme.

I'll take a look at some others, but I still can't resist posting a few more of the same colors :wtf:
