Hello, I'm looking for some help with the best breakdown for a 500 chip set that can cover a 15 person tournament.

Starting stacks in the 5,000-10,000 range.

T-25 through T-5,000

25 X 120
100 X 120
500 X 100
1,000 X 120
5,000 X 40

That breakdown would work for 8/8/4/7 or 8/8/6/6. I’d probably drop the 500T to 60 chips and add a barrel to each the 1000T and 5000T to make the set more flexible. I think that would accommodate more players or if you had a lot of rebuys.

May be a good idea to beef up your T25's depending on the structure and T100's for coloring up.

25 x 140
100 X 140
500 X 60
1,000 X 120
5,000 X 40

@BGinGA and others have convinced me, it's not worthwhile to introduce chips on color ups that will subsequently be removed.

To color up T25, the idea is to get T100 chips from one or two players using T1000 chips. Then use these chips to award the race winners.

This enables you to keep the amounts of low value chips on the tighter side on the low end so you can invest in the higher demoninations used in later rounds or for more big stack flexibility.

I'm just starting to see the light on this as well. Trying to order quantities using this principle.

Yup
I think it can vary a lot based on structure, and exactly when the t25’s are getting colored up, and whether there are antes in play. But there’s probably no reason to put MORE t100’s into play. If the T25 color up happens at a point where some players have been knocked out already, a lot of places will color up some of the t100’s at the same time.

Having a few stacks of 12/7/4/7 will allow the game to run smoother for structures with a 25/75 level. Likewise with
the additional T100's when covering the 200/400, 300/600 and 400/800 levels. The field of players will have thinned when the blinds reach 500/1000.

Not sure why 60 T5000's are needed for a 15 player T10000. Unless you are expecting to have 10 or more re-buys.

Allows for larger starting stacks if desired. 6x required for T500 color-up, leaving enough extra T5000s for 15x T25K stacks or 15x T20K stacks with up to five re-buys.
