The backgammon thread caused me to go dig these up. Anyone know the age or material of these sets?
They belonged to my grandparents (born around 1910) but I'm not sure if they go back further than that.

The mahjong set looks like bamboo and ivory or bone. The dominos are a very strange lightweight plastic feeling material.
The stuff that looks like dirt on the mahjong tiles is actually part of the material as dark striations.

Pictures aren't the best...
Thanks for looking!

Hi Mac,
Don't know about the age, but the domino set is used to play pai gow. Also ca,led Pai Gow Tiles, this is the game that Pai Gow Poker is based on. I have 2 sets in my closet and have played it in casinos. I don't think that set is that old.

That Maj Jong set looks really old and looks very cool. I wonder if it could be made of ivory? That's a pure guess though.

Thanks for the tip on the Pai Gow Tiles! I'll have to go look it up. Those came from my uncle who was a big fan of Pai Gow so it might fit the tale :)

I think the phone number is for a Hong Kong phone. May be better to google the name of the company. Here is a pic of one of mine from Trasure Island, including the dice cup.

Looking at the Maj Jong set, it could be real ivory. The tiles look hand etched and painted, but not sure. That is a very cool set.
