Help find a Vegas hotel for my elderly mom (Fremont St) (1 Viewer)

My elderly mom (82 this year) is going on a road trip with her friend to Vegas for the 2nd year in a row.

They play slots and she is insistent on staying near/at Fremont St as the vicinity of the casinos makes it much easier for her and their is less walking within the casinos as everything is crammed in (she has some mobility issues and uses a walker, the strip would be too much walking for her).

Last year she stayed at the California Hotel and was not impressed with the rooms. I am a bit of a hotel snob (work travel has ruined me as we usually stay in very nice hotels), and many of the Fremont St hotels look similar. I am looking for any assistance in picking a nicer hotel.

It's a bit of a catch-22, as the nicer/newer hotels, such as CIrca, are more spread out, which she doesn't like as it means more walking moving from machines to machines. I'm not sure if there is a good solution.

Here is the list of hotels that are on her shortlist:
- Plaza Hotel
- Golden Nugget
- D

Go with Circa. It's brand new.

I completely agree and took her over there last year (my work trip overlapped with their trip). They complained it waa too spread out

I don't like the low ceiling, smoke filled, other casinos but that is what they want. Need to figure out the best of the worst.

I believe Plaza recently redid their rooms & defiantly have upgraded the gaming floor a couple years ago.
Golden Nugget has NOT upgraded the gaming floor but is very centrally located on Fremont.
The D is nice and but I have never stayed there but a big plus is the presence of the "Old School Sigma Derby" lol.

If it was me, I'd choose Plaza from those 3.
When we stay on Fremont (albeit a block south), it's the El Cortez, nicely redone rooms in "Tower" and they treat us VERY WELL.

Think it's lwss about the cost (I mean they don't want a big suite), and more just getting the nicest room possible. Likely one of her last road trips to vegas.

I enjoyed the Freemont a few years back when the rooms were just remodeled, but as they recently also remodeled the main casino floor, they instituted resort fees. So yes, the 4 Queens I believe is the last one downtown without resort fees.

Stayed at The D here a few months back. It's not bad if you get the corner suites - those rooms are away from the noise, good view, decent room for downtown, good location (right there on Fremont).

There's often a groupon for the D that makes it fairly reasonable, bought one and didn't have any issues using it.

And when you're there, you absolutely have to play the old quarter Derby machine on the second floor.

I like the old casinos, the wife prefers newer so the first half we were downtown, the second half I had to get a nice room with a strip view and in-room jaccuzzi

I was gonna say two that you already have on your list… Golden Nugget and The D. Both casinos are pretty compact and both have nice to very nice rooms.

At the Cal, depends on which wing she stayed at. The newer rooms are in the West tower. The rooms in the other tower is very old and small.

I would say GN, but that a fairly big property. Never stayed at the D. Plaza is less noisy as its at the end of the Street If she stays in a hotel on Fremont, make sure to get a room away from Fremont Street Experience as it gets pretty noisy.
