Hello everyone!

I'm Trevor and I'm from SoCal. I stumbled upon PCF on my search to upgrade my home poker setup. I've been running a home game for around 6 years now. It started with just a few college buddies and then eventually led to me reuniting with old high school friends and even making a few new friends along the way. We have grown in skill levels and seriousness of the game as the years have passed. One of our players now makes a majority of his income by playing 2/3 games at local casinos. As we've grown older it's become harder and harder to make time to see each other with our busy lives. That's why I don't mind hosting poker night at my house (and providing the beer), because its an excuse for some of us to get together and catchup.

My current setup is barrington table, which I replaced the felt with speed cloth and got deeper cup holders. We also run the copag plastic cards and outlaw clay chips from discount poker. This has been the setup for a couple years now and I think I'm ready to make some upgrades. I will be searching the forums for budget ideas. I'm always open to suggestions.

Welcome!

Couple of questions - what stakes do you normally play and how much are you looking to spend on chips? We can then help guide you based on that for options to check out.

Last set of chips i bought before actively buying on this forum was a set of outlaws, I still like them!
welcome to the forum.

Outlaws are basically the best cheap/ABS chip you can get and the lowest I recommend. I have a set and they are quite good. Shockingly good for their price point.

Thank you!

We play anywhere from .25/.50 - 1/2 blinds, and buy ins range from $40-200 depending on blinds. We can get up to 10 players at the table, and sometime play up to 8 hours straight so I'd like to have more than enough chips to be prepared for those situations. I currently have around 700 chips in my outlaw chip set and it works well.

I really like the look of chips from br poker pro (specifically the 8-bit) but I don't think I can spend that much on chips especially since I want at least 600. I'd like to stay in the $200-250 range.

Don't get me wrong they are great chips and have held up really well! I'm just ready for a slight upgrade/refresh.

I agree I think they are great for the price. One of friends has a set of slowplay chips and I think those are also another great budget option.

Check out this thread, someone had a similar question, although for up to a $2-$5 - the info links and feedback are similar though:

For that budget, I’d recommend the Nexgen Remix Pro - but these will feel really light at 9g compared to the metal slugged 13.5g outlaws. You might want to just buy a couple of samples before pulling the trigger (for like $10 and see what you think before pulling the trigger on a whole set).

BRPro has got a really got reputation for quality - so you can’t go wrong with them, these will also feel different. Suggest you buy small samples of the Nexgen, BRPro and maybe a Tina Hybrid set from this site. If you’re not a fan of the Nexgen’s, might be worth saving up a bit more for the BRPros.

I think you might struggle to cover $1/$2 comfortably and 0.25/0.5 with just 600 chips. Recommend something like the below - usually want to aim for a bank of ~5000 x Big Blind, so 5000 x $2 big blind = chip bank of $10k. Would recommend bumping up to 800 chips.

Potential set for 0.25/0.5 to $1/$2 - 800 Total chips

100x 0.25 ($25)
200x $1 ($200)
300x $5 ($1,500)
160x $25 ($4,000)
40x $100 ($4,000)

Total Bank: $9,725 over 800 chips
