New to the forum. Not a collector, just looking to buy a set of chips for a home cash game. Trying to understand what chips to stay away from.

Thanks!

Welcome to PCF! Most of us have no problem giving our opinions on chips. It all just depends on what you want. If you are good with colored chips that are cheap they sell them at Target.

You want a more fine tuned answer I need more details.

So i have received sample chips from The Poker Store. Monte Carlo Poker Club chips. Looking to stay around $350 max for a cash set of 1000 chips. Also looking at Laurel Crown chips from MRC Poker. MRC is selling a 1000 pc. set of Monte Carlo Poker Club chips for $261 in an Acrylic case. The Poker store is selling the same thing for $374 including the acrylic case. Are the chips from different manufacturers?

Same chips made by the same place. Look at Amazon.com for them too.

I got the samples of the Laurel Crown chips from MRC Poker Store. Great weight and feel. No spinners. And no wobble on the stack. The colors in person are less vibrant than what is shown in the pictures. No real issue there. My slight disappointment is with the numbers on the edge not being consistent. While some numbers were completely intact, some had the top cut off and some had the bottom cutoff. And while it is a minor detail, it will bug you if you are obsessed with details. And I am.

I finally settled on the Monte Carlo Poker Club as my first set. 1000 pcs. A little heavier than I would like, but the price was real good and the chip quality is excellent.

Welcome! Just got a set of Paulson myself could not be any happier and the players at my home games love them. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
