I haven't and it may sound cheesy, but i really would love to play in the ME. I've actually never been to Vegas.

For years i've been drooling over the you tube videos, very disappointed when they dont show day 1 and 2 etc.

ESPN will have day 1 coverage this year!
I've never played in a WSOP event, but someday I will. Probably not the main event, because $10k seems like an awful lot.

I've never played in any, but the ME is probably the one I would be least likely to play in unless I won a satellite entry. Forking over $10k would make me puke.

$10k is a whole lot of nickel chips.

A whoooole lot of nickel chips!

No, but I am planning to make it to the little one for one drop at least this year. Next year, I am hoping to play in a decent amount of the events, but we shall see. I have always wanted to play in the WSOP since I started playing poker, and now I finally feel like I am ready and have a decent shot at cashing at least.

I'd love to get into the ME through a qualifier event somehow, because 10k entry is a bit above my bankroll at the moment.

Played the ME back in '05 but it only cost me $27 :)

That's amazing.

I told my mother that the first thing I'm going to do with my inheritance money is to buy into the Main Event. Without missing a beat, she said, "Bulls***. If you're good enough to play in a $10,000 tournament, you're good enough to satellite in."

Went to the Rio one year, just to see the WSOP. The size of the Amazon room, the sound of thousands of players shuffling chips, it was... magic.

Played twice. Mrs Zombie cashed in one of the Daily Deepstacks. Mrs Zombie was not really fond of the vibe though. Nobody talks at the tables. It's all hardcore poker. We wont be back anytime soon - unless it's to rail for our friends.

@Poker Zombie
Too true. People take it to seriously. Everyone focused on winning that bracelet.
If I ever make a final table, then I'll think about a bracelet. Otherwise I'm just there to cash.
Show me The MONEY !

Question re the whole WSOP thing.

For a "nothing fancy" hotel, how much would it cost per day/night in accommodation, roughly? I'm guessing the WSOP event would make rooms difficult and expensive to come by?

Just curious how much you'd have to factor in additional costs.

This year's WSOP room discounts.

Edit: this does not count resort fees, parking fees, entry fees, taxes or gratuities. Friday rates higher. Saturday even higher yet.

Played the Main Event three times, and a few smaller events too. Never cashed in the main, but did well in a 2K event.

Funny you say that cause I watched one of Negreanu's live Instagram videos the other day and noticed how quiet it was. It made me realize that the Rio may be the quietest card room in the world when WSOP time comes around

I've not played in any WSOP events; however, this year I plan to play in some of the daily deepstacks at Rio. How long do these daily tourneys run?

Mrs Zombie ran deep in one, cashing a little after midnight. Educated guess is the final table would wrap 2-3am.

There are 3 of them each day. The first one (the one we played in) was deep-stacked, the 2nd one less so, and the 3rd one even less deep (but far from short-stacked). My guess is that they all finish around the same time.

I played the seniors event last year, and didn't really think about it until you mentioned it. It really was quiet. The atmosphere really is quite compelling. Makes it feel like every decision is critically important. Even at the early levels everyone is focused. I got to level 10 and it was dead quiet in the room, so quiet that you could hear cards being shuffled at other tables.

Sort of a sideline, but does anyone know what the main event starting stack breakdown is? I know the total amount is 50k, but not how it's composed.

Played the ME in '09, I had a partner for some of the 10K. Busted out with a flopped boat vs flopped quads.

Ouch. I actually have that beat. Me playing my hand horrendously bad lead to getting the chips in as a 99.4% favorite. It's so on the edge of unbelievable that I've not told (and won't tell) the story to anyone in nearly ten years as I dislike being labeled as a liar :)

When PokerStars had their live event in Atlantic City last fall I went and just observed for an hour or two. I couldnt believe how quiet it was. The poker rooms in casinos aren't too loud, but they are deafening compared to how quiet the room was

I don't know, it was 30K in chips in '09.

I have been to the Main Event, and have had a 10% stake, the past 3 years (and will be there again this year), but I have never played in it. Interestingly, I have made it on ESPN (for a split second), and in Poker News while at the Main Event.

ESPN (me on the right pumping my fist). This was from the opening scene 2 years ago.

Pokerstars Article (me in the bright teal shirt laughing in the 1st pic). Negreanu just finished hooking us up with a video of him saying, "it's on you" for the slow players in my crew. The article mentions it.

Anyway, whether you're playing or just watching, I highly recommend going to the Main Event if you can...it's very exciting to be there!!
