Hello! I suspect I'm a bit of an oddity here, as I'm not a poker player, though I do find it fascinating. I looked you up after coming across some videos by Chris Manzioni and Hobbyphilic.

My primary goal is finding something that I can use as currency or for tracking points in board games. For that reason I was hoping to find something generic but not boring, more subtle than flashy, super easy to read, and affordable. I have limited-to-no experience with chips, so I ordered some sample sets from BR Pro Poker (8-Bit and DDLM) and Apache (Bank and Penthouse) for comparison, as well as the BoardGameGeek store (which I planned to purchase)

I really love the 8-Bit for the clear numbers, the design, and subtle edge spots. I love the DDLM set artwork, but the numbers are not as legible. The Bank set has clear denominations and I generally like it, but I found some of the chip edges too busy. The BGG chips (metal slug ABS, I think) are easy to read and the colors really stand out. They slide really easily, but my purposes I wouldn't have tall stacks.

I'm new here, and you have already been a terrible influence on me. I'm still leaning toward BGG for a small set to use for board games, but I'm now thinking about what I would choose for a tournament set. And what do I want for a small-stakes cash set? Maybe I need to get more sample sets so I have a wider range of options for comparison. I found a post about a Rat Rod set and that sounded like fun. What kind of DDLM set do I want to buy? I DON'T EVEN PLAY POKER!!!

Welcome!

BRPRO poker have a good reputation here for high quality - you can also customize some of their designs as well.

Buy a small sample set of a design before you go to town.

GL.

Welcome to PCF!
If you're not looking for $$$ clay chips, you can check the Bank Poker Chips from Apache Poker Chips. They are quite readable and come in many denoms for 18xx and other board games. They are excellent but by this forum standards, they are considered 3rd-rate (metal insert, 50c apiece), while ceramics are 2nd-rate ($1-2 ap) and clay are 1st-rate collectibles (made by Paulson, $5-8 ap new or used, or CPC , $3 ap, but Paulson only sells to casinos and CPC is moving to a new location, with unclear future).
