So, being new to poker and recently (1yr or so) started playing PLO on home games, there’s nothing quite like being able to play with such nice chips and a decent table.

The ambience created around this, really gets me hyped up to play the game.

Does the gear matter? Do nice chips matter? Does the right lighting and ambience matter?

I host monthly tournaments and have owned many sets of chips, while a nice set of chips matter to the folks here, none of my regulars gave two cents whether they were playing with Paulson THCs or ABS plastics to be perfectly honest. Having a nice table is much more important than chips in my opinion. Having a good atmosphere, TVs, Music's, etc and keeping stakes at a point where it stays friendly are far more important than chips. The greatest addition to my home game is a automated shuffler.

IMO, the following applies to the average non-chipper poker player:

Great table >> great chairs >> great room >> great chips

Most players will be just as impressed with some decent slugged chips with denominations on them as they would with leaded, shaped-inlay Paulsons. Those are mostly for you.

However, a great table and nice chairs in a great room will really impress them.

I agree with this. Nice table and chairs (and TVs, etc) are paramount. Nice chips are great, but most non-chippers don’t know the difference between RHCs and THCs, so generally speaking you don’t need to go crazy on chips.

Where at in Michigan are you?

Funny enough the chairs are not featured in his photos nor mine if you didn’t recognize the set or table color.

The chairs are okay the game was on Saturday and I upgraded the chairs on Sunday.

Old and new (well new to me) ;)

Pet pro is a must. Make sure to get the pet pro (more powerful), instead of the regular one. I use it all the time. Start with the poker table then move through the house cleaning stuff. Gets you great points with the wife too!

These chairs were on Windy City Poker on cable TV today. Guaranteed your players will say nice things after the first game with them. Mine did when I upgraded to Gassers.

This right here, Though I would say great chairs >> great table. Out of everything in my room, the chips are the very last to get noticed.

Did you get it to regularly clean up after a poker night? Or is it just to deep clean the new stuff like cushions you buy from others?

I plan to use it on the table and chairs; I'm a bit of a germaphobe, which likely weighs in on purchases more than most other people and why I typically don't buy pre-owned things. The table could use a cleaning though its not too bad, I had planned on this purchase when I seen goldy post it the first time. I will typically clean all chips (unless new) and the casino used Paris chips, I've done a sonic clean and a hand cleaning on them lol. I wipe down the setups with a Clorox wipe and then a damp paper towel and then a dry paper towel. Maybe I have a touch of CDO (OCD to normals ;)). I have a cover for the table and I still brush it off before and after every game.

I serve food in the kitchen, and request no food at the table, but stuff happens.

I bought the pet pro to periodically clean my poker table. many times, you can‘t even see how dirty you table is getting. It works wonders:

Welcome aboard.
Poker Room ambiance makes all the difference which includes good lighting, decent poker table, comfy chairs, plastic playing cards and decent set of poker chips. Most players may not appeciate the nicer chips, but the owner sure does.
Any extras such as a TV, ice maker, drinks and snacks are a plus for sure.

Have you used this on a chanman-type cloth? I've been debating doing it but worried I'll make things worse rather than better.

Edit: NVM. See the above.

Dang! Like new. Mine's gotten really grungy. Tried sponge cleaning but meh results. Just ordered a bissel.
Get a pre-treatment solution as well, but test it on a small area first. I didn’t have any problems using it on either felt but you never know.

Having a nice looking table and comfy chairs will by far give the better comments, chips not so much. As long as the chips have denominations so some don't have to keep asking what they are worth is likely worth it for that fact only. They dont have to be super expensive chips to be appreciated by the players.
We have all been at home games with blank chips and the question is always asked...what is this color worth again??? lol
