Dealing with some technical difficulties and can’t really work. Ask me anything.

Could be about design, the past working for marketing at a casino, CFL football, philosophy. Whatever.

Only topic I won’t be taking questions on is the weather. Currently -34°C and -44 with the windchill. Brutally cold.

Do you believe it is better to design an inlay fully before mock-ups for a set or after?

Good one. I think it’s good to have an idea of what you want for your inlay before you go hard in the CPC design tool, but not a prerequisite.

Personally I’ve done both. Get an idea for an inlay and basically finish that then design the chips from there, or in other cases I’ve played for hours in the design tool with bases and spots and then waited until inspiration struck for the inlays.

One thing I think people don’t realize about creativity is that sometimes it can just be brute force trial and error until you hit on something you like, sometimes it can be lightning in a bottle. Definitely no single roadmap to it.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?
A hot dog is a hot dog, IMO. Its a specialized foodstuff.

It’s kind of a cop out to say that, though. So if I had to choose, I would say that yes, it can be a sandwich because it’s meat, condiments etc held together/delivered via bread.

Hi timinater! I am a creative (copywriter) trying to break into the advertising - gaming industry, what exactly are casinos looking for in a portfolio or resume?

Are Canadians mostly all super nice or do most just have really good manners?
I honestly don’t think Canadians are nicer than average, but I do think we tend to be a bit more humble, a bit more reserved and a bit more deferential than other populations, so it just looks like we’re nice/well mannered.

We had our agency do almost all of the copywriting, so I can’t really speak to the hiring part. I think getting your feet wet at an agency would be a great start because there would be a lot of variety in the work available to do.

I don’t think you’d need casino specific experience in your portfolio, but just make sure to showcase a variety of copywriting skills.

As an agency client though, we were always keeping an eye on the copy to make sure the tone was light, succinct and easy to read (grade 8 or below reading level).

Did you know that 75% of Canada’s hash browns come from Saskatchewan potatoes?

You studied philosophy? Who's your favorite philosopher? What's your favorite field of philosophy?

what is YOUR favorite label you have created for a customer, cant be your own personal label for your own chips
?
I knew this question would come up but still didn’t give any thought to my answer beforehand.

I love all my children equally, and I’d hate to forget someone but the standouts recently thay come to mind were @wonderpuddle’s Jack Rabbit Slim’s and @Rbonus012 Castaway Casino set. All the credit to them though, super cool ideas that were a lot of fun to work on.

Do you prefer cash games or tournaments?

What other card games do you enjoy playing other than Omaha-Hi and NLHE?

Are you available to work on some 43mm cards mold artwork for six denominations of cash chips containing video game characters?

I definitely did not study philosophy - that may have been misleading, whoops! I just kind of meant in general life philosophy.

So like… I’m terms of an outlook on life I’m very much a pragmatist/stoic. Live and let live. Basically as long as someone isn’t hurting me or others I’m willing to support them in whatever it is that they like to do.

On the stoicism side it’s maybe not a true stoic outlook but I believe there is really very little that we need to be truly worrying about. Easier said than done of course.

Is that even philosophy, or am I just making shut up now?

How badly would Sweden have humiliated Canada in the finals if the world juniors hadn't been cancelled?
#savedbythebell
Probably not as bad as the US would have. Or more accurately, Canada would have humiliated Canada. I haven't figured out why but every year we play the US we seem to lose our game of skill and speed to playing for the big hits and take needless penalty after penalty.

It’s time to put an end to the debate. What IS the highest number?

I prefer cash games but tournaments seem to be easier to get people to turn up for.

You didn’t specify poker games, so in addition to badugi, razz, stud and Omaha Hi-Lo I definitely enjoy some canasta with the in laws. My nephews like to play golf, and the latest one that’s mostly based on a standard deck is Wizard

See the OP for my answer there in the short term, but absolutely yes I am once I get that squared away.

Quite frankly I had some concerns about our defense and goaltending so I’d have loved to see the games play out. We often start slow so te question for me would have been are those problems real or just based on compete level against lower level teams.
