Foxwoods/MGM Mixed Relabeled Set (1 Viewer)

One of my favorite $1 chips are the OG Foxwoods MGMs:

I originally started the quest to build a rack for my mixed casino limit set, but about halfway through building the rack, I was fortunate enough to find a complete rack that a generous PCFer was willing to sell me. Buuuut I was over halfway to completing the second rack...... so I kept going (kinda out of chipping boredom lol). Anyways, the 3 chips above completed the second rack, so now I have the basis for a playable set with some of my favorite $1s.

I've built mixed sets before and honestly don't terribly care for them, but considering how much I love these Foxwoods, I figured I'd give it another go. My cash games are typically low stakes (25¢/25¢ or 25¢/50¢), so this will be a small 600 chip set - 2 racks each of quarters, dollars and fivers. For the quarters, I grabbed a couple of racks of MGM Grand Vegas dollars, I really like how these look with the Foxwoods $1s, plus they're both MGM properties. I figured it'd be relatively straightforward to relabel these as quarters. The fiver is where I got stuck. I really wasn't looking to spend a grand or two on live fivers, so the MGM grand (Vegas or Detroit) fivers - while both pretty nice - didn't sit well with the wallet. Instead - at least for now - I grabbed a couple rack of the IoC KC fivers, which have the same tri-moon spot pattern. I'm a little concerned about dirty stacks, especially given they both have an olive colored spot, but the red on these IoCs is so vibrant (I like these even more now that I have them in hand!!), I think they'll be OK. So here's the set:

Now, my next question here is figuring out a relabeling approach. Some possibilities:

1. Minimum - label the blue MGMs with the same MGM Grand Vegas design and just change the denomination from $1 to 25¢. Leave the IoCs as is.
2. All MGM Grand - label the blue MGMs as per #1, and label the IoC fivers with an MGM Grand design (I'm thinking Detroit - see below)
3. All Foxwoods - label both the blue MGMs and red IoCs with Foxwoods style inlays

FWIW, any re-labeling would be just labels, I have no murderous intentions in my heart

So I was initially against the IOC chips for the fives unitl I reached the very bottom of your post to find what appears to be an original tri moon MGM 5. Back on board with the tri moon idea. Not a huge fan of the duplicate olive spot, but I am confident your player group knows how to manage their stacks enough that it should be a very minimal issue. At the very least multiple trained chipping eyes at the table will catch a dirty stack if they see it. I am however still on the fence with house mould/RHC together. It's not the end of the world, but a bit uncomfortable for me personally. Though I do understand the sentiment of not investing a large amount of funds into true (live) house mould fivers.
Anyways, to the question at hand, I think the labels would be the coolest with all 3 designs displayed. It's a nice nod (or tribute) to the properties and having all 3 designs is really unique. The blue chip flows really nicely with the set, and the metallic printing on the $5 is a nice touch for your higher denom chip. I will say though, I think the original Detroit fiver fits that line up really nicely as well

I know, right? Though I'm not a huge fan of the oversized inlay, they do go really well. This was the chip that made think the IoCs would be a good substitute. I assumed it would be tough to get 2 racks of these in very good shape (both the Foxwoods and MGMs are in great shape, all stand on edge). I'm afraid to even ask any of the Michigan locals in fear they're more attainable than I'm assuming lol.

My understanding is that most of the current MGM Detroit $5s are really beat up.
I’ve been trying to put together just 1 rack for the last 2-3 years. (I do have over a rack, but that includes a couple of barrels of V1). I have just over 4 barrels, which came from singles and members sets here, that were harvested when the casino opened. If I were ever to hear from any of the Michigan locals that they got some new chips, I definitely try to add a few more barrels.

Thanks! The whole rack is solid, besides the giant inlays. I even like the snappers, just have no idea what I’d do with them.

I think the IOC $5s are a solid relabel candidate. I also have a current MGM LV set build going, and considered those IOC $5s as a relabel candidate for that set, before moving forward with try to find enough original $5s.

I love the MGM households, especially the FW‘s. I use Detroit fracs and some custom 5cent chips for my micro cash games.

My recommendation: Use MGM households, only and mix Detroit’s and Foxwood‘s.

Love this set!

If I only needed a couple of barrels, this is absolutely the route I would go. I love a nice challenging project but finding 200 foxwood mgm $5ers in very good shape seems fairly impossible.

Lol. There is one notable exception to that sentiment, and thats the BTP snapper limit sets. Those are fantastic!

I think you could do tri-moons across the board, or you could use the 2V quarters and tri-moon ones and then use something other than a tri-moon for the fives... but having two of the three denoms be tri-moons feels very wrong to me. The set has no cohesiveness.

Tri-moons (and quarter pies) are very difficult to assimilate into what most would usually consider a "cohesive" set.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but I think pretty much anything with four-fold symmetry would work, if the spots were 1/4" or wider. 4D14 might be perfect, or maybe 438 or 412.

5‘s are hard to find. It took me years to collect one rack. All chips have the giant inlay and are in really good shape.

I think @Irish you should find some original FW 5‘s. The are out there. Especially the newer version.
