This topic has been covered many times but I love discussing chip breakdowns for some strange reason (it satisfies my OCD for one) and watching the #quarterwars take place. This topic is particularly important to me right now as I try to finalize the breakdowns needed for my first mixed cash set. So here we go with my current thinking after hundreds of variations in spreadsheets and reading through many previous threads.

The games: NLHE ranging from $0.25/$0.50 ($40 max buy-in) to $0.50/$1 ($80 max buy-in), 10 players

The set:

200 x $0.25 (yes, I am firmly in the 200 quarter camp because of how my game plays)
200 x $1
180 x $5
20 x $25

For the $0.25/$0.50 game...

20 x $0.25 ($5.00)
20 x $1 ($20.00)
3 x $5 ($15.00)
-----
43 starting chips for $40 (with 1 barrel of quarters and 1 barrel of $1 for those with extreme OCD!!!)
Note: all quarters and $1 are initially used with a full 10 player table, but "plenty" of $5's and $25's for rebuys

For the $0.50/$1 game...

20 x $0.25 ($5.00)
20 x $1 ($20.00)
11 x $5 ($55.00)
-----
51 starting chips for $80 (with 1 barrel of quarters and 1 barrel of $1 for those with extreme OCD!!!)
Note: all quarters and $1 are initially used with a full 10 player table, but "just enough" of $5's and $25's for 10 rebuys

I think this is pretty solid, but would you tweak this in any way??

Again, this is important to me as I try to finalize my breakdowns for my mixed cash set.

Thanks!

Are you limiting yourself to 600 chips for any particular reason (i.e. storage, $$, availability of the chips in question)? IMO it can be an arduous (although not impossible) task to build a set with a limited number of chips that can comfortably accommodate several different stakes.

Probably cost limitation first and foremost (although I'm in the process of purchasing 3 racks of $5 so that's already out the door). Maybe I view 600 as a starting point to get a playable set and then bolt on from there??

2nd would probably be availability. Is it likely I'm going to find more than 2 racks of mint chips in a "reasonable" timeframe.

one more rack of $1s and three racks of $5 puts you at 1000 chips and a pretty versatile set. Can always add another barrel of $25 (and/or a barrel of hundos) if future expansion is required.

Frac wars :)

I like the 1/2/3 breakdown

100x25¢
200x$1
300x$5

Then adding $25s if needed. Even though my set exceeded those numbers for the $1s and $5s I feel like it's a great starting point.
