My absolute favorite chips to acquire were the ones that I knew somebody was hoovering up and buying every single that ever showed up anywhere. I managed a couple of those here and there, but not many. I'm all for creating racks one single at a time. Make those scattered singles playable I say. But you can't be a piggish hog and get them all. I only ever wanted ONE of each chip. There are people out there with a lot less money in their pockets because I bid up auctions and they just wouldn't ever let me win ONE. If I ever got a chip like that, it was usually from a private transaction in a place the other person didn't go or didn't notice.

My other favorites were where I was missing just one chip from a casino and had the rest. Like if the casino sequence went 25c-$1-$5-$25, and I had three of the four but not the $1. Finally getting that $1 was immensely satisfying. Usually that last chip was the rarest or most expensive, or the one that was the most difficult to find in "rolls on edge" or better condition.

As a guys who’s built a few racks like this, I gotta say it’s a tricky thing. If I just decide to win every auction, price be damned, all I'm doing is dramatically increasing the market price for the chips I’m trying to get - not exactly a winning strategy.
I saw this happen exponentially when I was chasing grand casino Gulfport $1s - when I started, they were under two bucks apiece. I saw that price soar to $15 apiece in less than a year. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one chasing them of course, but I definitely did some damage. Learned some lessons on that one.

Wow, sorry to hear your set has been broken up and is gone! Thank you for the inspiration! I am not sure my RR set will ever go just due to what a pain in the ass it would be to "undo" it. I will probably modify it and adjust it from time to time, but otherwise, it will more than likely remain.

Having a playable singles collection is a really cool idea and hard to accomplish. But you paved the way and because of that, there are a growing number of similiar sets now.
