Hey guys, I would like to gauge interest in a custom order of Faded Spade plastic playing cards bridge size. I am waiting to hear back about the color options for the back of the decks. We would have to collectively agree upon a design for the back as well. I was thinking of possibly doing a NAGB BOAT design if we can get permission from the owner of the design. (Would pay a royalty fee similar to buttons if allowed to use it I am assuming.). Will cross that bridge when it comes though. I reached out to Faded Spade directly and was quoted $7k for an order of 250 two-deck setups which breaks down to $28/set. If we are able to hit 500 setups it drops to $25/set. I know feelings are strong about Faded Spade but so far I really love the set I have. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Bad experience with faded spade
Costumer service is terrible

You might have luck getting interest if it was another manufacturer; however, most of them have super high minimums so not many custom decks have been produced.

Desjgn cards much better!!!!
No doubt
I do love me some design cards but I have them all already! Lol I love the pips and face cards on the Faded Spades though. Probably my favorite of any deck. Would be perfect if put on Desjgn card stock

I know Sunfly is now producing cards. They only have one design so far, but if you got enough I’m sure they can do customs.

Sorry, was working earlier and could not respond in detail.

The quoted price from Faded Spade for 250 two deck set ups sounds steep. Is that quote from factory to your door? That price gets steeper if this doesn't include shipping, taxes, duties, etc. It's good that they're willing to do a relatively small MOQ though, so that's one advantage of using them. Still, I cannot for the life of me find out who prints Faded Spade cards. Just about everyone else I know where they come from originally. For anyone on the fence on Faded Spade, their V2 stock is much, much better than their V1 stock which was terrible. They fixed the bowing and warping issues that plagued the V1 stock and the V2 stock is not as stiff as the V1 stock was. I would also inquire about custom face artwork from Faded Spade @Buge . See this photo below of Mariano's latest vlog:

Skip to 10:58 of the video. This card room has low number cards that have a black outline around the pips in the middle of the card. Compare these to the cards earlier in the video that do not have this box surrounding the pips, which is more in line with the retail versions currently sold. I'd see if they'd be willing to customize the card faces to have the pips on the low cards boxed in, or even see if they'd do a cream colored center typical of the European cards out there to make these truly custom. Just a couple of suggestions!

Let's run down the other options before going forward though. This is what I know of:

-Dal Negro: 500 deck/color minimum. Current Desjgn print house. Offers both poker and bridge size, but card faces are not customizable, MOQ goes up to 3000 decks/color for custom faces.

-Fournier: 1000 deck/color minimum. Not likely attainable.

-Modiano: Persona non grata around here. Don't do business with.

-Cartamundi: I've been told that their Belgium Casino stock has a 1000 deck/color minimum, but have not been able to confirm. They seem to only want to deal with casinos for their casino stock. However, they seem to have done business in a small order with a small Belgian card room linked below:

https://www.pokahnights.com/collections/pokah-cards/products/mulberry-wood

@Thomacetti would know the deal way better than me, but it seems like they're willing to do a 500 deck MOQ/color on their Copag Belgium stock.

-Sunfly: Same print house as Fournier. 1000 deck/color MOQ by the look of it for custom back designs. Card stock is one and the same as Fournier (both USPCC subsidiaries)

-I'm not sure who the Chinese print house is that manufactured the King Australia playing cards is, but I'd look into them too. Their card faces have the best, smoothest finish that I've ever felt.

Feel free to add if anyone else knows of any other printers!

Thank you, these are great suggestions! I do like the idea of adding the box around the numbered cards. The price of $7k for the 250 deck setups is “all in” as they put it to me. I will verify that actually means total without any surprise fees. I do believe they ship from within the US so there shouldn’t be any duties but I could be mistaken on that. Also this obviously wouldn’t include me shipping out the cards after receiving them. I was also told we could choose any card back colors that we wanted and they would be able to print them. Just an update.

Of all manufacturers, they would be the very last I’d look too. I have examples of cards from almost every manufacturer. Faded Spade are by far the worst cards I’ve ever played with. WAY too stiff and I personally think the artwork is gaudy.
Why not Desjgn? Cartamundi CCP stock is cheap and nice as well

So an updated on my end with custom cards. I’ve been open about just experience with the last manufacturer.
I have found a nee supplier. Their samples are great. They are going to do a run of my own design so I can get an idea before mass production. They also want me to ship them a deck of kings cards to see how they feel and if they can replicate the material used. Or actually source the stock.

Really a shame since Faded Spade has one of the best faces that is satisfying to both the standard index and jumbo index crowds. But...their reputation precedes them.

Yes please!

Can we get Cartamundi to do a 500 deck run on their Grimaud stock?

I’d be in for a TON of setups

I wish Dix was still around so he could test them out. Although I'm not 100% certain, I think the Grimaud deck that I have has card stock that's identical to the Belgian Copag stock Cartamundi uses.

I'll have to check my Kings, I think I still have a couple decks of the slightly seconds. But my recollecton was that kings were textured on both sides. At least that's how I remember the poker sized setup I had a few years ago. Maybe the have multiple stocks?

Now that I've got one in hand, I'll say that the back has more texture than the face, on the Kings, but I wouldn't say the faces are smooth. Maybe @Old State can help, at least with the vocabulary. The faces definitely have some kind of finish that feels like a texture to me. It certainly isn't a gloss. Maybe some kind of a matte? But they're great cards for sure - some of my favorites.

I don’t know the actual terminology but my Father may. I’ll ask. That said I did a search to see if I could find the correct nomenclature and this site popped up. Anyone ever heard of them?

I’ve put the feelers out about a custom run on the kings stock. I’ll see what he comes back with.

say we get a group buy going and settle on the stock. Next up is the design.
I’ve been working on something I can put to the group. I put it up in another thread. It’s my faded spade inspired design.
I think we need to aim for 2000 decks. 1000 of each will be a standard MOQ. Price dependant, I’d be in for a few.

the face cards need some edits to get the suits to match inside the middle bit

does anyone have any unique face card designs they want to throw into the mix?

I would definitely be interested in cards on the Kings stock, especially poker size. I love the Faded Spade font, so I would be interested in a GB of those too.
