I played a home game and naturally I wanted to deal but it was really tedious and we had to stop multiple times because I couldn’t keep track of everything.

This dude named Mark something has a YouTube channel called “True Poker Dealer”. I found his stuff informative all the way from shuffling, the pitch, handling chips and the chip tray. His how to stuff is about 10 years old so there may be better stuff out there.

I love to take over the dealing when the game gets to 8 players. My players enjoy it as well but don’t tip and still say I shuffle like a girl. LOL!

First WELCOME!! If you're interested in chips, check out this Members Start Here

More detail! I'll take a stab in the dark...

Passing the deal a lot ppl don't use buttons, get a button, it will help you where to keep track.
Ensure ppl are not splashing the pot or acting out of turn.
PLO is more difficult, what game are you playing?
Get the pot right, if you have multiway action and short stacks all in, square your pots first, then after the run out, start with the last sidepot and work down to main pot.
Unless you're playing PLO HI/LO don't stack the chips in the pot
Unless you're playing PLO its also NOT your job to know the pot size
Button, small, big very easy to check when you start your deal
Stud games you don't need a button, but you then would always start with seat 1, some don't like this
Stud game, bring in your antes first, but don't bring in the antes to the sides of where players are missing antes
If players are acting out of turn, return the checks and ask them to not act out of turn
encourage players to announce their intent, and if they don't announce it for them
Don't engage players in conversation, if someone asks you something 1 word replies

If you enjoy dealing you should first work on your pitch, set up chips and deal to them.

There are threads talking about randomization of shuffles, after which if you're hand dealing shuffle shuffle box shuffle, then wash about every 4 hands

If you got all of that we can dig in a bit more, if that's overwhelming focus on your shuffling, then pitch (pitch is how you throw the cards at the players head).

No one in his right mind would play in a stud game that didn't track the deal...
If you want to come north, I can show you at least a dozen ppl out of their minds. ;)

Its actually how the game was played prior to the buck, you always deal to the first seat left of the dedicated dealer

My 2 pesos (in addition to the above):

1. develop good fundamentals and coordination
2. work on learning one game at time, especially at the beginning
3. lots of good/correct repetitions
(4. have fun!)

IMO, if you're playing with friends, they "should" be patient and help you out...

It is very important that the action, betting, take place in turn as intended. No one can bet out of turn. No exceptions. You cannot even fold unless it’s your turn to act. Everyone’s bet must be placed in front of them, not in the pot. NO ONE takes change until the round of betting has been completed. It’s best to let the dealer handle this until players are more experienced. Do NOT deviate from these procedures and strongly enforce them. It may seem like you are being a stick in the mud at first but in the long run players definitely appreciate the consistent, transparent, reliable approach that has integrity.

Yeah, but he 's going to need at least one ally / fellow teacher.

Ah, my bad -- I thought you were referring to a stud round in a mixed game, where you have to track the number of hands played.

Yes, in a pure stud game, the deal order doesn't matter, since the first up card determines the bring-in.

If you’re the dedicated dealer you run the game and make sure the other players know it. Bets should be placed in front of them and you should enforce it. When you do just tell them it helps you keep track of bets and let’s the others clearly see what the action is. I tell my players (who are also friends) don’t do anything here that you wouldn’t do in a casino around strangers like splashing the pot or reaching into the pot to make your own change. You should be in control of all of the chips on the table. Don’t let others make change from bets that are out (which also means they should be familiar with the oversized chip rule). You can make change from the pot in between streets but you should be handling all those transactions. Change between players and their stacks is acceptable though.
