Sitting Out
Hey folks,
Just wanted to drop a quick tip that worked for me in case anyone else runs into this. I picked up a set of Copag plastic cards recently, and wow — they reeked. That strong plastic/chemical smell hit me as soon as I opened the box. Not great when you’re trying to enjoy a game.
What I did (and what actually worked):
I tossed the deck (out of the tuck box, cards a little fanned out) into a big Tupperware container and added a couple of dryer sheets — one on the bottom, one on top, but not directly touching the cards. You can get fancy and put the cards in a mesh bag or something breathable if you’re worried about contact, but I just made sure they weren’t smushed against the sheets.
Left it sealed up for about two days, and the difference was night and day. The harsh chemical smell was basically gone, and the cards just had a light, clean dryer sheet scent. Way better than that factory funk.
A couple other things I thought about trying but didn’t:
Baking soda – could probably work if you put a bowl of it in the container with the cards (not touching them). It’s great at absorbing odors.
Activated charcoal – same idea. The kind you get for your mouth or shoes might help pull the smell out over a few days.
But honestly, the dryer sheet method worked so well I didn’t need to mess with anything else.
If you’ve got a fresh deck that smells like a plastic factory exploded, give this a shot. Easy, cheap, and no weird cleaning needed.
Anyone else try something different that worked?
