Hi, I am finally thinking of getting a limit set - I like that the Dunes Chips have a $20 denomination and that is very hard to find with casino Paulson's. Plus the cost of 1200 -1600 1s plus larger denoms seems pretty high with Paulson's. However, worried about stacking stability of the Dunes - I have Majestics and not sure I would trust them in those big stacks of limit games.

Thoughts? Thanks much!

Don't know much about the CC Dunes, but...

If you did want to stick with Paulson, you could find a $1 denom you really like, and then just find another cost effective Paulson chip to relable as a $20. That's what a lot of folks do around these parts.

If the stacks get too big, why not color up to make them more manageable? That's why you're interested in a $20 chip, right?

How many players are you building the set for?

I know everybody likes to use a full rack of $1s for a starting stack, but I think you can easily get away with 40 to 60 $1s in a starting stack and fill the rest of the buy-in with $5s. Makes it a lot more affordable to put a set together.

For a limit game, I'd much prefer handling large stacks of ceramics (especially GOCC chips) or ceramic hybrids over ANY china clay -- they are much, much more stable in large quantities. Even the Apollon Vintage chips (Polyclay) from Sun-Fly are far superior for a limit game application.

I think you have the right idea, I'm hoping to put together a non - denominated, 43mm set from the Old West Mayfair thread. I haven't been following it lately, hope I didn't miss out. I would try to use 1's and 20s only, and not 5s. Good luck with the search!
