Do you try to crush your home game? (4 Viewers)

I try to win every time. Problem is sometimes I win, and sometimes I fund the pot and totally get destroyed. It's alot of fun...

I play to win all the time! Even in pots with my own mother, I'm trying to get the money I'm rightfully owed because of all the times I was stiffed on Christmas gifts. How does one ask for a Sega Genesis and get a Mr. Perfect WWF action figure! :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO: (kidding).

I have some nights where I don't care and just get splashy and give some money away. I wouldn't go to a game where the host crushes every single session. That being said I also track my wins and losses to know that I am well on the profitable for my home games/tourneys and that is my overall goal; just be a +EV player.

You wouldn't go to a game where the host wins all the time? Fear of being cheated?

Not really. I don't jump to the "he/she is cheating" conclusion all the fast. If I tend to run bad or never get the better of someone at their game on a consistent basis, then I would just not really want to play there. It's similar to a local casino we have called Twin River. I run like hot garbage there so I just flat out don't go there anymore lol. Just might not be the right game for me and I don't want to be a chronic donator lol. That being said, I have yet to run into a situation like this so this is really me saying how I think I would feel if this situation arose.

That's fair. I was just wondering what you were thinking.

I think it depends on the reason you are playing. If it's 99% social and 1% about the poker, then who cares how anybody plays? It's just a gateway to a good time, full of outrageous bluffs, trash talk, jokes, and laughter. Instead of a party around a kitchen counter, it's a party around a capsule-shaped table.

If you are playing to learn the game and improve, then there should be something to risk, and you should always be playing your best. Because nobody learns or gets better unless they play against people who are good and better. Every hand can be a challenge, or an opportunity, or an insight.

If you are playing solely to make money and don't give two rats hindquarters about who you're playing with, go to a casino.

I want to win. But you make it sound like you can have your way with the table. I wish. My game is pretty competitive (for me anyway).

Always. When I play our game I try to take more than the money. Hell, I’d take souls if I could cash them. Especially a certain few who play a notoriously outrageous game. Like our one player who will play anything like Postle. 4-2o, 3-5o, etc. Bastard always hits the flop and kills the river.

I got a couple of those. That's the type of money I want every single time just because they also cause the worst suckouts lol

I try to crush them every time. We play .25/.50 NLHE cash game. They try to crush me... there's 6 of us that have been friends for 25 years. We all kind of know each other tendencies. It's really about having fun, but I want their chips (well, my chips in my stack). With the buy-ins and payouts, even if I win, I think I spend more on the food and the liquor as a host; so, I always lose.

I felt a little guilty stacking the meet-up host for his first buy-in .25/.50 circus games.

But i got over that 'guilt' pretty quick. :ROFLMAO:

@slisk250 invited me back so i guess he doesnt hold a grudge

But... if im playing with non poker players, family/ friends etc. just for kicks. No i'm not crushing anything or trying to crush anything.

I find it very hard to believe you don't pot, pot, pot ANYONE  :ROFLMAO:

I would CRUSH my wife's late grandmother in Scrabble.

Bro in law after would say.. 'ahh dude she's 84 think you could let her win'

I always said, i cant think of anything more disrespectful than letting someone win because they are old.
If i get to that age and people start 'letting' me win. thats it. Im done. Take me out back and make it a clean kill.

Basically what Craig said. In the smaller $.25/50 and small $.5/1 games we play I basically try to see every flop as cheaply as possible unless I have a premium and then shovel money in haha. In our deepstack $1/1 and above games I play a little more solid LAG.

Define "premium". :ROFLMAO:

Well its a social game, but half or more of the players are serious about the game. I dont play for the money I play for fun. There is a bit of ego and pride in the game, so its more fun to put more of a hurt on some of the players.

Well if I just play solid TAG poker Im a very solid winner in the game because the others just arent that solid. What I want to do is open up with more 3betting preflop mainly. Basically play with more aggression (which can backfire a lot on these calling stations).

I'm always just happy to host and play, but I try to win. Of course, we play nano-stakes (5¢/10¢) so if I lose, it's usually less than I spend on snacks and drinks.

The most fun I have is when a new or bad player luck-boxes his or her way into a win.

However, I should mention that the last time we played, I crushed my way into a 1200BB win!

In for $15, out for 138.50! :P

You only start with jacks or better split, nines or better wired, three high cards to a flush. If it's good enough to call, you gotta be in there raising, all right? I mean, tight, but aggressive. And I do mean aggressive. That's your style, Professor.

Hate to break the bad news, but people sometimes 'let' you win now. They get tired of the whining and throw you a bone. :D

Thats another question I was wondering about. Are there certain regulars in your game, or newbies to the game that you would ever "soft play" in order to keep them coming back?

That’s like saying I let you win at Backgammon. ;)

No. In my experience, it's generally not the losing that stops people from coming back. It's if the people winning make that person feel bad for losing. Often times people are not playing poker with the expectation of being a long term winner. As long as they have fun and win from time to time they will keep coming.

I play to win. Always. Regardless of game, stakes, people, or locale.

Under some circumstances I may try harder than others, but I have never been accused of soft-playing in any game ever, poker or otherwise.
