In my game that I've started recently, I'm the only one of eight of us with chips, plastic cards and a humble playing mat.

I try to get a game every month but quite hard sometimes with balancing other commitments.

Long story short, another in the group is always suggesting to have a game on a random day but I know for a fact that he has no poker gear. I've already said once before my stuff won't be leaving my house.

My gear is quite humble and maybe only about 300-350 usd.
Should I be more relaxed and let them use my gear? I'm still inclined not to.

Bonus pic of the best (and mine) winning hand of the night from Saturday.

Chips bought from @duncancm who I was unfortunately unable to give a positive review to for some reason.

cards and buttons ... sure no problem I have extras of those anyway.
Chips - not my "best" ones but I have some china clays and ceramics that I would lend to a semi trusted source.
These are sets that in all honestly I could sell but I keep exactly for that reason and also my teen boys can use them with their friends and I don't sweat it.

That’s a tough one to answer without knowing the scenario entirely. Do you trust them fully? Do they respect the stuff? Are they easy to get ahold of to get the stuff back whenever you want it back? I’d lean towards giving them sluggos and my low end stuff tops, and I’d be adamant that if they plan to do this often, it shouldn’t take much to get some usable gear for a decent cheapo game.

But again it completely depends on the scenario IMO. My neighbor has had my old table for a year or 2 now because we like playing over there so much more than my place (killer mancave, old patriots players house which is cool) and I know if anything ever happened he would happily pay to replace it, but I still wouldn’t leave anything but sluggos over there for an extended period simply because I fear losing a few that only I would notice or some bizarre damage that I could only say “I’m pretty sure that happened here” without being an asshole. Scenario is everything here and you’re not responsible to provide others peoples games. And you never know, it might get them into looking at chips and into the rabbit hole with you…

Hard no on that.

Six months later….

You: “hey I’m needing those chips back for my game”
Him: “ I thought you gave them to me to run my game, I moved to Boise”
Oooouch... I'm not afraid of this guy moving away, more so I wouldn't know the clientele that he will invite to play and that the stuff would be properly respected.

As above, I'd trust him but then just the unknown of who would be there playing, drinks spilled, food spilled... I don't know.

I'll just reiterate to them that the gear won't be leaving my house.

Over the years, I borrow my chips a few times here and there but they are mostly non chippers so I am only comfortable with loaning them my Ceramic set and my China Clay set which I will have an easy time replacing them if anything bad happen.
Maybe after I'm on this forum for awhile longer and gotten a few racks together, I'll open the vault and lend them to trusted buds.
I have gallons of dice chips on hand, probably 10 setups. I’d give one away but would never loan out anything I spread in my game.
I live in the Cayman Islands so was quite hard to get everything I needed here. One trip to Florida for the chips, one wife travelling by herself with our baby from London, Uk to here with a poker mat rolled up and checked in. I didn't hear the end of that one for a long time. She won Tourney 2 in the house here so she doesn't complain about it anymore lol.
You might start a different thread -“ have you loaned out gear and have a horror story”
Yeah I can see that thread absolutely popping off, I will leave you the honours haha

I'd loan to local choppers, but in that case id probably be at the game anyway.

I have non chipper friends who ask to borrow sets and for that I use some 8v china clay sets that are a huge upgrade for them but not particularly valuable. That way its no big deal if they lose or break a coupe chips. I have some turnkey travel set-ups that work great for guys weekend/bachelor parties. Its all part of growing the game.

Yes, to people I trust.

In fact I have a table and chip set loaned out a friend now. She has been hosting more games than me this summer. It has been nice to be able to just show up to a game.

Other people in our group have asked to borrow supplies and I have politely told them no. So it depends who is asking.

I think another way it could be done is to put up some collateral and then use the chips. Once chips are returned in their original condition the full collateral could be returned. It's basically what a lot of us do with the classified here by selling and buying back the same chip set lol

The answer to the question in your post comes down entirely to your relationship with the loanee and how much you trust them, and we won't be able to answer that for you. I wouldn't have a problem with this for... most... of my friends haha.

I give away my older decks, and let friends borrow sets if needed. My crew is tight, so it's never been an issue. Also let pcfers Im good with borrow sets. But I'm a trusting idiot.... Never had an issue tho.

I have my old set of dice chips I'd probably give to the first friend to ask me. Maybe same with my sluggos, but certainly would loan them out. I'd loan my group buy ceramics to most of my friends. Probably be fine loaning one of my clay STT sets out too since I don't run tourneys often myself and I have two of them.
My friends are pretty good about taking care of each others stuff when it's loaned out though, if my friends were harder on things I'd probably be more wary.

I don't think I'd loan my Dragonara relabel set to any but my closest friends when it's done though. Lot of work required and cost involved in replacing those, comparatively.

I've got more plastic card setups than I'm likely to need for several years now so no issues loaning those out.

None of my friends are nearly as enamored of poker as I am though, so I don't know that they'd ever ask. I need to find some more poker friends.

No! And yes!

I won’t just loan my chips out. I don’t want to worry about how they’re used and abused. Plus, will I get them all back? Or back at all?

I will however take my chips to a game I’m attending. Unfortunately, that means I have to stay until the game breaks, even if I go broke.

I work at a local TV station and our sports guy wanted to borrow my table for a segment he was filming on poker and I let him. I got the table back a few months later and the speedcloth was damaged because the table had to be moved around the studio by the PAs on a daily basis. The damage was hidden by the (removable) rail so it wasn't unusable, but enough to need re-felting. He promised to buy new cloth and help me re-cover it.

I waited for him to follow through for almost 2 years...then he died.
