Do you ever need more than a rack of $1 chips for a $1/2 or $2/5 NLHE game? (1 Viewer)

I am sure I will be sorry I mentioned it, but what do you wear while your outfit is in the washer?
Back in my collegiate days, we had guy on my dorm floor who only had a single week worth of clothes. Every week he would put on his suit to take his clothes to the laundrymat.

Agree 100%.

Recently played at a 25¢/50¢ game and they had both a 25¢ and 50¢ chip in play. I was like, 'why the hell are we playing with 2 fracs?' Host answers with 'ldo, because those are the blinds'. I was going to respond with, 'do you see $2 chips at the casino at a $1/$2 game' but decided it would be a futile argument.

People ended up with multiple useless barrels of fracs.

I have to shamefully admit that I use to do that until I eventually snapped out of it and realized how pathetic it was.

Sadly, there are some casinos giving out $2 chips for a 1/2 game. Had to go through my phone to find this one, which was taken when I rolled through Miami in January 2020 and played at the Gulfstream Casino in Hallendale Beach.

Haha - no doubt. We all start as noobs.

BCC desert palms were my first cash set. I had 25¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $5, $10, and $25 all on the table at the same time. I loved the look of all the chips and wanted them in play.

I love poker chips, but when I'm playing poker I want to play poker and not watch people take 5 min each hand counting out bets with 5 different denoms.

Is that $2 chip mostly intended as a rake/tip chip?

As a chipper, I'd probably actually like seeing $2 chips being handed out at the casino and harvest them! Lol.

I guess if there was a dedicated dealer at a home game that controlled action and counted out bets I'd be okay with an insane number of denoms and chips on the table. But if it's self dealt, then no.

Thanks for all the responses! Yeah it comes down to being a double edged sword, making change more often is a pain but I've had games where players "hate the small chips" and just use them to get rid of them, which results in 20+ $1 chips going into the pot almost every hand and it takes up a lot of extra time

As the host, you can be in control of this! Whenever you see that there's too many small chips on the table, buy them off! And conversely, whenever you see there's not enough, sell the table some change!

There's no one answer that's best for everyone. Preferences and practices differ. It might even differ from night to night at your own game! Maybe tonight Bob who normally hoards all the quarters didn't show up, so now everyone's got way more than they really want to have. Buy a barrel of twenty off of somebody and give 'em a five from the bank! Be flexible and keep everyone happy.
