Thanks to Facebook memories, I was reminded of something special - it is exactly 2 years to the day since I hosted my first home poker game in the middle of the pandemic. Coincidentally, this is also my 1000th post! I’m super to grateful to such an insightful and entertaining community for all the knowledge, jokes, friendships, and memes over the past 2 years. Here’s a little recap of my journey…

Poker started because my wife and her friends wanted to start a weekly “Bachelor” watching group and I needed an activity for the husbands. It only took a few YouTube videos and google searches to get me hooked. First game? Dice chips and table cloth. I spent hours running off the flashing on the edges of the chips. And then sold them a month later.

But when I get into a hobby I go deep. Within a month I had a barrington and majestics.

Which got a new speedcloth shortly after. Majestics became semi-custom ABC ceramics.

And Black Friday 2020 brought my first Paulson purchase. They unfortunately wouldn’t see the felt for a year as I made labels and all my players got good enough to increase our stakes.

I got in on the China ceramic chip excitement as well, but not card molds.

Tried the BJ roulettes and loved them, so built a set of those as well.

And finally labeled my Paulsons and got them in play!

Tried my hand at milling and created this set…

Then realized I had a problem.

But at least I was organized.

Oh, and I love cards too (about half the collection).

Thought I was done, but then stumbled into cheap spirit molds which became a travel set and a new 1000-chip home set.

Whew! What a great 2 years it’s been. So, GIVEAWAY! I’ve been out of town for a month and don’t have all my poker stuff in front of me, but I wanted to do my first giveaway in honor of 1000 posts.

I don’t have photos, but I’m going to give away one of my custom cut cards, dealer button, some chips from my sets, a full sample set of one set, and whatever other odds and ends I can find. Shipping on me. The only requirement for entry is that you need to post the OLDEST pic you can find of your home game. Let’s see your origins! I’ll close this down next Wednesday when I get back in town.

Thanks for an amazing 2 years! I look forward to meeting you all at future meetups someday when my hectic school schedule is behind me.

-DJ Fayze

Reserved for giveaway pics when I’m home!

I’ve never given away any cut cards or samples from my sets, so you will be the first and one of most likely very very few to have any :)

Congratulations! Our first real "home game" was a mini meet up at Krafty's place
We've only hosted small family games at the house. But we definitely started with China clays once upon a time. I know Ben has some better history on his side of the family!

First game I ever played of Poker - Nov 2021. 5 to a straight, and it ends up nut straight over the two other higher straights haha. Dice chips, paper cards and the fold out table topper (plus blind buttons because only two outta the 5 of us had played before).

25c - 50c blinds on a table and some old random deck of cards from my dad, can’t even remember the year but early 2000’s.
Thanks!

Oldest action photos I have since I started chipping. My original home game was craps! Took me awhile to get poker going. Played in another chipper's home game during that time to get back into poker. Hadn't played since college circa 2007.

Sadly I am not a big photo guy and had to delete old photos to make space in my google drive. Now I feel like I missed out on being able to build a journey of my chip collecting journey. I love hearing people's stories about chip collecting. Here are the best photos I could find, congrats!!!

First up is probably me getting ready for a home game with everything out and deciding what cards and chips to use for the occasion.

Second is my last tournament at a casino in which I finally took home the #1 spot. This was a stack picture halfway through the game.

The earliest I can find is an image of our first Zombie Poker Classic flyer. Bold enough to call it the "1st Annual" not knowing if there would ever be a second.

The printed posters looked better. Today's graphic cards are so much better than they were back in to 2000's. You can see differences in the gold shading that wasn't visible then.

Back then I was still using film for photographs, so I didn't really take pictures willy-nilly the way we can today. My first chip photo wasn't until 2011 on a grainy 1 MP cellphone.

What a long journey it's been. In for $25,000*, out for $195*
Congrats on your 1000th post, and for building a successful game!

* rough estimates only actual amounts unknown - because I really do not want to know.

when you go all in, do you keep the blockbuster membership, or does that get transferred over if you lose the hand?
Hahaha I just found it laying around before the game. I just want the nostalgia of it and found it funny it was still sitting around. (Was not part of the game). I believe it wasn't even big enough to be a cut card.

Congrats! Great background and story on the journey your home game has taken.

We had some sporadic games before this pic was taken, but this pic is the first use of the Mill Town cash set on the Barrington table (before upgrades) that kicked off a regular game amongst our crew.

We are now 3 years in, with a full league schedule from Sept-March, and regular cash games from April-Aug. Cards mold tourney set for league games and custom labels on Royal CC’s for cash games.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I love seeing this chipping journey! Thank you for sharing it with everyone and being generous with the giveaway as well =)

One last bump! Here’s a low quality pic of what’s up for grabs. I’ve never offered any samples of my sets, so you will be the only person so far to own these chips besides me!

To enter, post the oldest pic you can find of your home game or chipping journey!

Alright that’s it! Let’s giveaway these goodies. Going to do a random number generator, 3 -26. Winner will be whichever post number is chosen that is a) not one of my replies and b) if someone has posted twice in here, they can only win if their post has a picture. Drum roll, please…
