Custom Set Advice/Set Ideas (2 Viewers)

In all seriousness, and without getting too much into the religious aspects, is your love for Notre Dame strictly with respect to the university and/or NCAAF team, or are you also interested in the cathedral/catholicism? Also, did you attend Notre Dame? If you're open to a cathedral themed set, I think that could be pretty cool. A fighting Irish themed set could be cool too, but I wouldn't go that route if I were you unless you attended the university. I always find it awkward when bay area sports fans wear Stanford apparel if they didn't attend the university unless it's game day or something like that. But to each their own.

I like the prison theme idea too. A clever name is always a must though.

I did attend the university but dropped out after my Junior year because my mother had MS and I went back home to help care for her so I didn't officially graduate from ND. I finished my degree through SEMO. Between doctor's visits and simply being overwhelmed it took me 2 years to finish that final year of my degree.

So I guess I could be one of those guys technically since my diploma doesn't say University of Notre Dame.

I'd say you have ND apparel rights then for sure. Others have gotten sports teams and universities to grant them permissions to use their logos for personal use. Requests are usually well received in my observations.

I tried that already. They basically told me to encourage one of their approved vendors to create some poker chips. But then they went on a tangent telling me about artistic licenses and that if it falls underneath artistic licenses it's fine. Which basically means if I paint a leprechaun on the back window of my car, that it's fine because it's "artistic" and for my own personal use and I'm not profiting from it. I felt like that meant that since I'd need an inlay "designed" and I'd in no way be profiting from it I'd be fine.

I asked CPC how they felt about it and they seemed to be receptive to the idea but I just kinda decided after having color issues between trying to match or keep from clashing with ND colors I'd just table the idea for future endeavors and go in a different direction.

After much deliberation I've decided that I'm not a fan of the CPC chips. I had them for almost a month of handling. I even got a few stacks of chips of the molds that I seemed to prefer and they just never felt right. For me the cost with the fact that I'm at best undecided on how I like them was enough to help me move into a different direction.

So that brings me to the new direction. I'm thinking since I seem to have more discerning taste when it comes to my clay chips (who knew:tdown:) I think I'd like to see about making my custom idea on a ceramic chip! This is for several reasons.

#1 - Cost...I hate to say it but for me when I'm unsure on something I'm not about to spend that kind of money on it. Ceramic can scratch my custom personal design itch for well under half the cost.

#2 - I really like ceramic chips! I have several old chipco sets that I enjoy getting on the felt. They're just different. They seem to just fall into a different world in my mind, kinda like china clays.

#3 - More real estate for design from what I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong). Which will give me more room to play with.

So basically I need to decide which retailer to go with (pretty well decided on ABC but I'm open to suggestions). I also want to know what colors pop on ceramics. Most of my chipcos are much older some faded, and obviously abc isn't chipco so they have their own thing going on. Are there color samples I can get? I don't know if there are mold options other than size, but I'd also like to see if anyone has opinions on the 39mm vs 43 mm because I'll be honest I'm loving the 43mm CC Royals so I'm leaning in that direction since I have zero 43mm ceramics.

I look forward to some input!

I'm not a hot stamp fan (can I say that around here?) I much prefer an inlay with preference going to shaped obviously. I even like giant inlays :nailbite:

If you do a search on the Boardwalk chips, you might find more about them. I did not get any so I don't recall who the manufacturer was. @BGinGA probably remembers.

Sun fly only for custom hybrids but you can get some home line hybrid samples through BR Pro. BR Pro is also the same as ABC btw.

ABC has their own blank which is quite nice IMO. They also used to offer the Chipco/GOCC blank on their secret menu until recently but can only use it for casino orders now.

The Boardwalk chips were a PCF group buy designed by @p5woody and produced by Sun-Fly on their 39mm Polyinno (hybrid) blank and the PCF-commissioned 43mm hybrid blank with 25mm recess (HB005). The 43mm/25mm hybrid chips are quite nice, weigh 10g, sound great, and stack like bricks. Best value chip on the market imo.

@p5woody has also done several other hybrid designs for group buys and individual orders, including the Mad Duck Poker set received by @MegaTon44 this week (search for recent pr0n).

So Sunfly does the hybrids, or does ABC have a hybrid option?
I'd be shocked if Gene @ABC Gifts and Awards wouldn't take a hybrid order if asked. PM him and ask.

You bring up a good question in my mind. I've seen a lot of "tribute" sets or "replica" sets that are mock ups of closed casinos, nice sets from specific poker tournaments or tours, I have a set of EPT replicas that I bought when I was on CT. I guess my question is this. Is there any kind of issue with having these things made? Like I've seen the Aria chips, I think they look great and obviously no one would mistake them for the REAL Aria chips but is this something that you can only have made through overseas providers? Does this only really matter for active casinos or more recent chips? What if say a person wanted to make a replica or tribute ceramic set to the PCA's would that be something that could be done at ABC or would I have to go overseas to have that kind of thing done. Just loaded with questions about copyright/trademark issues after my roadblock with my ND idea.

If the trademark is owned by someone else, there is always a chance that it will be denied. The more concerned the chip maker is (China = low concern, US producers = much higher) the less likely it would be made.
