How did you do the padded arm rests?

It looks like you extended the table outward. Did you simply add on to the existing octagon or reconstruct the whole thing?

Very cool. What were some of the hardest parts?
Thanks! Convincing the wife on a spot for it in the house haha

The leather wrapped padding was a bit of a challenge, not an upholsterer by trade. I had a tailor take care of the leather stitched bands in between each arm rest pad, otherwise everything else was just time and patience.

Can you provide dims?
How did you do the padded arm rests?

The arm rests are wrapped with Cowhide Leather I purchased from an online distributor. Each pad (8) is made up of a pine 1x6 base (cut to shape/size). I then added 2" of closed cell foam purchased online as well (sheet goods), and finally wrapped with leather. Each section has a leather wrap band I had a tailor make up and stitch for me using the same leather material, which hide the seams between each pad.

It looks like you extended the table outward. Did you simply add on to the existing octagon or reconstruct the whole thing?

Good eye! Yes, I did extend the table. The original table was an old oak wood dining room ROUND table that I had purchased awhile back on Craigslist. I had intended only to re-purpose for use of the lion claw pedestal base, but ended up utilizing the table top as well. I cut the octagon shape utilizing as much of the table top as I could, and then extended the table our with pine 1 x material and cut to the size I needed to make up the dimensions I wanted. Each extension is connected to the original table top via biscuit joints and wood glue.

I also added support "splines" underneath the table to take care of any deflection from the long span.

Dimensions:

62" (straight edge of arm rest end to end)
67" ("point" edge of arm rest end to end)
Mahogany Chip Track Inlay (1x6)
Felt center is 40" (straight edge end to end)

I would be happy to offer more information and/or photos if you are interested!

I’ll send you a PM and share emails and info. I have a 54” octagon table I want to extend myself. I purchased 4 of these for $50 each. Needs legs but that’s no problem.
