However, on some others like base white and canary, it makes the chip look dingy.

I mean it’s all personal preference. I like what the brass adds to these colors. I used weighted (base) white and canary in my personal set over the non-weighted/DG colors. Unfortunate people don’t think these colors are as pretty as I do.
