Back in the day, like 20+ years ago, I used to frequent the Paulson retail store in Atlantic City. Of course, I had to binge and that's where these came from. I especially like the Rodeo commemoratives and use them in our home games. I planned to use the Crystal Park $500s for tournaments, but it never happened.

Good lord... look at that rack of Crystal Park $500....
One weird thing I see. 80 of the chips go from 1601-1680, while 20 go from 1821-1840. Don't know why that would have happened. When I bought them I didn't think to even look at the numbers.

The fact that you have sequentially numbers chips in this quantity is really incredible, insane actually!

It’s funny I remember when I went into the Paulson store several times they acted annoyed that I was even there. It was really more of an office with a row of display cases, and the people there were office workers busy dealing with Paulson casino business. They were not really retailers and they clearly had no use for the public. I don’t even remember how or why I found it or went in. But I was like a kid in a candy store. They didn’t know or care about any of the chips, where they came from, or that some of them had serial numbers or cool edge spots or anything else. It was like “buy something or don’t and get lost”. Those were fun days in poker. Phil Ivey was playing 7-card stud in Atlantic City, Rounders was released, I was around 40. Seems like a million years ago!

Love this post!
I recently wanted to ask how it was when there were Paulson stores open for public.

Or how did you get a custom Paulson set at the time?
@cpac54 posted an order form recently, from 1992 or so…
Good ol‘ time!

Yeah there was no ordering. They had glass cases, like jeweler cases, filled with stacks and rows of surplus chips. Really mostly fantasy chips except for the Crystal Parks. I imagine they were part of a pending casino order, than when the casino got shut down, they just threw them in the stores to get rid of them. I think there was also a store in Vegas if I remember. I’m pretty sure I went there on a couple of Vegas trips, but the memories are completely foggy about the Vegas location. I was so vexed when they decided to close the stores and no longer sell chips to the public. I’m glad I had the time I did. Nothing lasts does it!

wow, i wish i had known about this place. im 45 minutes away. this wasnt in pier one, was it? i bought a roulette table from a casino supply store in there back in the 90's. thats not the same place, is it?

I found it. It was located at 3019 Atlantic Avenue, right behind the Tropicana basically. Which now makes sense to me since the once amazing Tropicana poker room was where I played for years almost every weekend. It used to be 2 big rooms in AC, the Tropicana and the Taj Mahal. The Taj poker room was bigger, but I always like the Tropicana, especially when they established the separate, sealed, non-smoking room. Which was also the high limit room IIRC. The Taj is long gone and is now the Hard Rock, which doesn’t even have poker ‍‍:mad:. And Paulsons now appears to be a Mexican restaurant.

My chips have the “diamonds”, but let’s face it, they’re probably some cheap clear plastic or maybe even glass. Still, pretty unique. And I didn’t even know about this “feature” until 2 weeks ago.
