ChipGuide Usage Policy (1 Viewer)

No that’s not how copyrighting works!!! If they want to sue you for copyrighting They don’t own the object they can’t sue. None of us owns the objects that we are scanning!! Now if they are using photographs and cropping out the casino than yes they own the copyright on those!!
They didn’t take any photos all photos were lent except for the original creators photos Greg susong ! 90% of images are scans scans arnt photos they can’t be used in copyrighting! Scanning an object isn’t a photo!! There’s no copyrighting a scan unless your crating custom art ! That’s visually different from the original. The average person can’t tell you who’s is who’s so copyrighting wouldn’t stand anyways. The scan isn’t different enough from the other to warrant anything unless you start a database of there images then they got something on you.

Meaning it doesn’t matter what you scan! That chip is an object they don’t own any of those chips The dunes owns the copyright on any chip scanned into the database(or Paulson or designer does ). Any current chip in the mogh is currently copyrighted by the casino / gpi / design creator !!! Doesn’t matter what we do to it we don’t own the scan !

Now if we are taking the chip out into the field and photographing it when a bird lands on It then we have created a copyright via photography because we’re using a camera.

Here U go from my lawyer friend,
If someone scans an existing object that they didn't create, do they get a copyright in the file? No, not from just scanning it. Copyright protection is not granted for copies of creative works made by someone other than the original works copyright owner! Ie you can’t get a copyright on a scan!!! Your scanning an existing object that was created already. Your not doing anything to that chip to warrant a copyright !
I’m not talking about the copyright of the chip. I’m talking about the photo/image.
I take a photo (of anything). You grab it from my site? You’re infringing. Period.

Yes if you took the photo it’s yours correct I can’t take it without asking you for permission , But if the image is a scan on your site it isn’t protected because your not the original creator of that object!

If every image submitted is a photo and cropped then yea we can’t do crap. But every image is mostly scanned! Meaning the original creator has the copyright and you can’t sue me for using it off your site doesn’t matter if you scanned it it or not.

So if I take a photo of the Statue of Liberty, the photo is not protected because I didn’t create the original object?

Sorry, this is simply not true.

your photo is protected and is copyrighted !!

if you scan the actual statue then Yes no protection because your not the copyright holder!!

So technically every chip guide image is already and has been copyright infringed upon when the first person scanned it !! Mogh is just editing a and recopying that already infringed scan.

The Statue of Liberty would be considered in the public domain due to its age. Works of Art in the public domain don't have any copyright protections. Taking a photo of the Statue of Liberty would entitle the photographer to the copyright of their photo as they are not infringing on any existing copyrights in taking a photo of something that has no copyrights.

Yea like I said your photo is copyrighted.

So I’ve noticed that TCG is using a slightly cropped photo taken by me. It was submitted there by someone else and I was not asked for permission nor given credit for it.

The whole reason the chip guide was created by Greg was to have a database of chips for the public to use and to keep the images of those old casinos alive!!! Greg never saw it explode to the heights of 300k images. But Kaplan and David always complaining about image use is a problem for me. I don’t like it I think it drives new collectors ( from chipboard and pcf )away from hobby when you read these post about mentioning and using images.

Original idea was to spread the word and fill the catalog

Won’t be a mogh in future if we drive people away because your worried about someone using a image on a post on the INTERNET!!! When you can find 500 images just like yours on google or eBay !

Like I said tell mogh to get a watermark your problem goes away instantly!!!!!! Intill then you’ll always have this problem.
