This is my first post on here so here it goes:

My home game plays 1/1 and we were looking into getting more secure, long-term chips (probably CPCs). Most of the regulars are pretty serious about poker and play 1/2 and 2/5 at our local casino weekly. So, the game plays pretty deep. Max buy in is usually $250-$300 and the game is match the stack after that. Average initial buy in is probably $200+. Also, I would expect in the coming years the game will expand to 1/2 and bigger. The game also plays Holdem and PLO double board bomb pots every 30 minutes to an hour. With the deep stack nature of the current game and the prospect of bigger games in the coming years I was hoping for some input on the number of chip quantities for each denomination. $1-$100 and maybe a few $500s? The player pool is 20ish people deep. The table is often filled up to 10 handed and is self dealt.

Would love to hear any and all advice, suggestions, and critiques.

This is the breakdown I used for $1/$2 game, we do 200bb starting stack and match half the biggest stack

$1 x 100
$5 x 200
$25 x 200
$100 x 80
$500 x 20

The workhorse chip will be $5 & $25 for $1/$2 & $2/$5 game

I would do this plus 200 more $5's. But that's just because I like chips on the table.

Someone around here made an interactive PowerPoint where you can make selections and it'll spit out a recommended breakdown. I can't for the life of me remember who. Maybe @BSteck ?

We play a big $1-2 game and use about 10 racks of $5s. Everyone buys in for $200-$500. We love $5s on the table and having huge chip stacks. Almost never need $25 and if anything we will get some $100s on the table if needed.

At minimal I would recommend $5 x 600.

(And if you think about it, casinos are the same. Tons of $5s. PCF community seems to like being more diverse with the denominations. Probably bc it’s more cost conscience?)

I love big stacks as well but it may also come down to what you can actually get. If you're looking for shaped inlay $5s, 6 racks is gonna be near impossible.

If you're going with CPCs that might not matter so I'd start from a recommended breakdown and then flex it up based on future proofing it as well as accounting for your preference for big stacks.

Agree with heavy on the 5s. I’ve played 1/1 with nothing but 1s and 5s and it’s gone fine. Not as deep though so not exactly the same. But still lots of 5s is good.

Nothing better than this! Stacks and stacks of $5s!

I think this is 100% true for tournaments. People don’t mind less total chips but more denoms. Then for cash games it’s all about stacks and less denoms.
Idk, I just recently started splitting rebuys half $5/half $25 once I have 3 full racks of 5s on the table. Just cuz I like seeing them in play.

$1–200
$5–500
$25-200
$100–100

Is my recommendation for a 1000 chip breakdown for a $1/1, $1/2, $2/5 game. Add 20 $500 if you want to cover the game ever getting bigger.

I agree with lots of $5’s in play.

I usually go with 600 fives in our $1/2 game but I have 11 racks and that's got me thinking about big fat red stacks. I was just trying to be reasonable before.

Psychologically do you think, more smaller denoms and tons of chips or higher denoms dictates more table action? Tighter/looser play etc

Less number of chips with bigger denoms in tournies seems to lead to bigger bets/plays. In cash games I haven't played with it as much. Our group is a bunch of desperate lunatics who play like they are going to die or get arrested in the next hour so I'm not sure it would make a difference.
