Hi everyone,

I’ve been lurking for a bit and figured it was finally time to officially check in. I got into poker about 6 years ago and it’s been a steady climb since. I mostly play in a local home game a couple of times a month, though I try to make the 2-hour trek to the nearest casino poker room whenever I can swing it.

Looking forward to getting to know the community better!

So, I joined the local Moose club and as playing there regularly until it got shut down. At that point, some of the regulars started a home game. It's a low stakes ($20 buy in) tournament game. Lots of rebuys and interesting quirks. Check out my other post for more details.

I've heard of other games, but have never received an invitation or other details. I'm just waiting for the casino in Petersburg to get build to I have a casino option within an hour drive.

Yes, eventually. At least, that's my understanding. They will not have poker while operating in their temporary facility (tent). They will have poker once the actually casino is constructed. I'm not sure what the timeframe for that is, but I wouldn't expect that to happen until late 2027 or even early 2028.

I just went to the soft opening last week. They say, the regular casino will be open in 2027 and is supposed to have a poker room. Right now it's slots and table games.

My wife and I almost went on Saturday before the snow and ice storm hit. But, I much prefer poker to blackjack or slots these days. How was it?
 
First of all, welcome, you’ll find many like minded enthusiasts here. Secondly, what do you have for a budget and size, and type of game you want to host?

Overall wasn't bad..typical opening day table minimums. Ultimate Texas Hold-Em was $25, Black Jack was $50. Hoping to go back once table minimums go to normal and give it another shot. Will probably keep going to Rivers Portsmouth and MGM until poker room opens.
