I'm thinking about introducing our tournament group to a low stakes cash game, something like 5p/5p or 5p/10p (UK).

As a group we are used to investing only small amounts into a night of poker, typically £10—20 for a tournament, so I was thinking 5p/5p would allow a player to buy 100BBs for £5 and rebuy a few times for his typical nightly spend, and we could up it to 5p/10p when we get adventurous :D

What would be a good set breakdown for 6—8 players? And what would be the typical starting stack for 100BB?

100BB is a bit small for a home casual cash game IMO. £10 buy in would play better. Regardless, I would do 20x.05 plus 16x.25 stacks if you did £5 or 20x.05, 20x.25 plus 4x£1 stacks if you did £10 buy in. Rebuys with .25s and £1s. I would do 160x.05, 300x.25, 160x£1 as a set (£243 cash). Add more £1s and maybe some £5s for the glory from there.

It would depend on how your group plays, but for us, a rack of nickels is plenty. We play 5¢/10¢, and most opens are 25¢ or 50¢. Nickels are hardly used besides for blinds.

My microstakes setups are:
5¢ x 100
25¢ x 200
$1x 100-200

And a barrel of $5’s in case things get crazy.

The first 5 players to buy in get a barrel each of nickels and quarters, plus however many ones to complete their buy-in. Later players get quarters and dollars, and make change from other players at the table. Works great.

At 5¢/5¢, or if you group is very limpy, you may want an extra rack of nickels. Sure couldn’t hurt.

Our nickels & dime game became a shove fest after a while.... (+20 BI 6 handed)
I changed the buy-in (25 vs 10) and upped the blinds (.25/.50)

Big improvement....no more shove fest
And cleaner & faster table with only .25/1/5 chips (and sometimes a few 20's)

starting stack
20 .25
20.1

rebuys all in fivers

5 cent x 100
25 cent x 100
1 dollar x 200
5 dollar x 80
25 dollar x 20

this works out really well for me for 5/5 or 5/10 cent

That’s a strange way to spell “chips”.
