Cash Game Cash Game till? (1 Viewer)

I don't forsee having any problems counting the chips & monies, I'm pretty dang good at mathing :)

Thanks for the tips, I think the main one for me is to make sure my buyin consists of fives, and some loonies & toonies. Like others have said, I'm not going to worry about quarters.

I always round up for my players on quarters and I buy in with $40 in 1's 5's and 10's, the rest in 20's ($100 buy-in)...All other buy-ins are in hundo's or 20's..

My friends and I have been using either Google Wallet or Venmo.

The "Banker" is Walleted all the money for buy ins, dolls out chips, handles re buys.
With this, you can make change down to the cent, so early leavers do not cause issues with being able to make change.

Also, if the "Banker" needs to leave the game, he transfers all the money to the new banker and cashes out from the new banker.

Super easy.

But it means that to play the game you need a Google Wallet or Venmo account.

If I'm hosting I try to have a good amount of $5's and a roll of $1 gold coins on hand because everyone always buys in with $20's. I read somewhere, maybe it was here or the blue wall on a similar thread that someone was using $1 coins and they thought it would remind the person the next time they dug in their pocket and had $1 coins about poker and having a good time playing, so it was a way of promoting returning to the game in the future. I thought that was a good idea so I started using $1 golds.

There's an old arcade game / pinball / coin op reseller that I pay attention to and buy stuff from on occasion. he posted this old 1916 and still working cash register a while back and it got me thinking that it would be a cool money drop for the bank at games. It sold before I could buy it. If I get a chance at another one, I might do it.

With my luck though, it would probably break at the end of the night and not open.

I'm far from a conspiracy theorist but I prefer to not create an electronic record of who played, when, for how much and what they won/lost and hand it to some third party company where it can be bought, sold, stolen, subpoenaed, analyzed, marketed or otherwise shared. Particularly if one is in an area where cards are legally questionable, or legal but the local authorities have a hard on for even the most minor rules violations (see: Texas, State of).

No, no.. we keep our card playing strictly an all cash affair.

I do like walking out of a game with a fat stack of cash,

The convenience of Venmo or Google wallet just make it so easy to make change and keep a record of the buy ins.

To each his own though.

Of course convenience is a big trade off. I've made a habit of taking singles out of my wallet at the end of the day and we bought a coin sorter so having enough singles and quarters is never really a problem. Whenever I play a home game I try to buy in with all singles and fives; it's been appreciated by many a host.

As to keeping track of buyins that only matters for tournaments and there's a couple really slick apps out there for running tournaments and they'll track buy ins, add ons, etc as well as serving as the blinds timer and producing some nice eye candy for the big screen. Folks here have been happy with Blinds Up! and I've done well with the Robin Apps Poker Timer. For cash games obviously it's a simple matter of buying back whatever chips are turned back in. Total buyin is irrelevant there.

But yes, as you say to each his own.

There is something neat though about being rewarded in cold hard cash at the end of the night.

I agree. When I host, I get small bills (usually too many) and a couple rolls of quarters; and I ask the players I know well to do the same minus the quarters. Never once has there been an issue. We write everything down and double check every buy in and cash out. All cash is secured with the ledger.

I mathematics good too, even on a booze.

Just an update, I did find a little locking cashbox second hand for $10, and I have been slowly putting all my change and $5's in it since the last game... so it now contains a healthy 25+ of each coin and 20+ $5's

I'll have no problem making change this game tomorrow :)

But I will have to let everyone know ahead of time that *I* am the only one that touches the money and the chips in the bank, last game I went to the bathroom only to come back to someone (that I could trust, but still) taking chips out of the rack for a rebuy and "We put the $20 in the tin, I can verify".. I was obviously a bit miffed and told them not to do that again. (These are people that usually play free pub league so other hands on the chips aren't a big deal)

I bank and buy in with 10x$2 coins, and if I rebuy use $5 notes (swap $2 coins for $1 notes in your country)

When cashing out I simple round down and the leftovers go into the next pot

Tell players this is how it is done in your game before they buy in

We have come up short, as banker you must cover this, the missing money was found at the start of the next game, it was in the wrong chip case

If a few cents matter that much to your players, do you want to win money off them?

Have Fun
