That looks like a chip used at the Sands at some point in the 1950s (according to the Chip Guide, here: http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=NVLVSN&v=39317601 ).

I don't have my copy of "The Chip Rack" (a collectible chip price guide) handy, but my guess based on how infrequently I see anything from this era, definitely something with value to the collector community.

(the group here is more interested in sets and playable sets of chips rather than singles. The "collector" community is primarily located here: http://www.thechipboard.com/ It's very far from a modern discussion board and more of a 'BBS on the web' as far as format and interaction goes, but you might get different/better (?) replies there versus here.)

As a note, they are pretty picky about posters and users actually using their real names or initials... just a heads up if you choose to post there.

That said, that's a brilliant old-school and somewhat historic chip (think Vegas Rat Pack era!). I honestly wish I had my copy of the TCR handy so I could make you a reasonable offer on this, assuming you are looking to sell.

Welcome aboard! That chip was manufactured by TR King in the early 1950’s on the small crown mold. It’s part of the Sands 4th issue and one of the rarest Sands/TR King chips.

I’m hesitant to give you a value. I don’t recall any sales of this chip. A very old, 4th edition of the Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide lists 3 condition based values as $12,000-$22,000-$30,000. To give you some context, a 5th issue Sands $100 has a high value of $1,200 in this guide but in recent years I’ve seen them go for $400.

How long have you had it? Will it stand on edge? Will it easily stand on edge?

Congrats on having such a great chip!

I've always found the Price Guide to be on the high side. Even after being out for years, when you'd expect the sales price would exceed the printed price range, chips routinely sell for under book price for all but the very best pieces.

Wow, thank you for the information! I have had the chip for nearly 30 years. I have never tried to stand it on it's edge, but I can't try later tonight when I get home. I had no idea it was worth anything. Very cool!

Thanks, everyone for the feedback!

Here is a picture of the other side of the chip.

I have a copy of the Chip Rack # 20 …
It lists your chip with a value of a “ Z6 “
which equates to a price range of $5100 to
$8099 . Chip was made in 1957 according to the Chip Rack . The chip rack number is N9049 .

That's so strange. The Chip Guide lists the 5th issue chips as made in 1956 and the 3rd issue chips in 1953. I just assumed the 4th issue would be somewhere between 1953 and 1956.

The small crown Sands are some of my very favorite chips. I have all 3 of the 5th issue and just 1 of the 10th issue.

@Trh189 That's so cool that you've had it over 30 years! I'm guessing an older relative took it home from Vegas? A chip like that should be in an airtite. I'm happy to send you one, just let me know.

I got to see one of those White Sands $100s in person at the convention owned by @leo822 my awesome friend E! I didn't bother asking a price but in person, easily one of the most beautiful chips I have ever seen!!
