Can a set be a "GRAIL" set if you have to quantify what kind of GRAIL set it is? (1 Viewer)

Can a set really be a GRAIL set if it needs stipulations?

  • YES, it is the best type of that set. i.e. grail ceramic set, grail dice chip set, grail CC, etc...

  • NO, If a set needs anything more than being called a GRAIL set then it isn't a grail set.

  • There is no GRAIL set so none of it matters!

  • I like Polls and don't want to answer the question really so I will choose this.

So what about something like the Steve Appleton chips? Those were very limited, they cannot be recreated, and as some people thought, they represented a small slice of Americana to them. They had their only little unique history to them, although I understand it wasn't poker lore.

One set in all of existence, compared to the Binion's which I feel is like owning a pair of original Jordans? No one person could destroy every Binion's set out there, but the SAs are probably gone forever, pretty damn difficult to get the original set back together.

I don't consider either of these remotely close to a "grail set", despite how much various people would LOVE to own them.

Those are neat $5s but FYI they’re mislabeled as $1s.

Omg. Omg. @Saoliver... @markleteenie said hurtful things.... Omg.

I think a true "grail" set would have to satisfy at least three criteria:
1) unique, like there would only be 1 playable set in existence
2) not reproducible from a manufacturing standpoint
3) highly sought after by those who recognize it as such
Perfect definition, so much more applicable to people, as "objects" of desire, rather than to poker chips...
Still, one man's "grail" may or may not mean something to the next man.

Grail is a personal thing. Each chipper might have their own grail, so be it. I think in the broader sense though, one might consider a grail to be a set that never seemed possible to put together, that took years of scrounging and searching and “chipping” to manifest.

for me “Palais de Congress” or whatever that set with the cool green Inlay is, that’s pretty much my grail set, I don’t even have one chip... they seem way too expensive to start. But that’s my grail set, it’s an idea that exists in the ether that I know is going to be near impossible and/or cost more than i can afford.

any chipper that has a “grail set” they don’t care what others consider “grails sets” they built thier grail, they fought their battle, they sacrificed and built. That’s what makes a grail.

I am not so sure that a grail set has to be “only one playable set in existence”. If I had a playable set of New China Club TRKs, I would consider it a grail set, even if some other joker also had a set :)
